Epidemic Disease

  • Fuxie 伏邪 (submerged pathogens) and the Membrane Source (moyuan 膜原): Epidemic qi nests in the moyuan like a hibernating animal; attack it if zhengqi is intact, support zhengqi while attacking if depleted, only nourish yin if exhausted. (Fruehauf)
  • Neijing on epidemics: 'two deficiencies' and righteous qi: When righteous qi is strong pathogens cannot invade; 'when two deficiencies meet', internal deficiency plus unseasonal qi creates terrain for epidemics. (Fruehauf)
