Luo Vessels
- Channel systems in the Ling Shu: Ling Shu ch.10 gives the primary and luo channels, ch.11 the divergent (jing bie) channels, ch.13 the sinew channels — hence it is called the Zhen Jing. (Yuen)
- Circulation protocols (peripheral vs systemic): Peripheral (cold hands/feet): open HT-5, bleed yang luo, close LU-7. Systemic (CHF, fibroids): open PC-6, bleed yin luo, close GB-37. (Gioioso)
- Dai Mai + Da Bao (SP-21) for vascular complications: For diabetic vascular disease, combine the Dai with SP-21 Da Bao (Great Luo of the Spleen), linking Spleen–Kidney below and Spleen–Heart above. (Rabinowitz) → SP-21 Dabao
- Fire luo points (SJ-5, LI-6, SI-7): Any luo point associated with fire clears heat through the blood via the luo mechanism. (Gioioso) → SJ-5 Waiguan, LI-6 Pianli, SI-7 Zhizheng
- GB-37 Guangming: Luo point that addresses the eyes (floaters). (Yuen) → GB-37 Guangming
- Heat in the blood with anemia — bleed first: Low RBC plus raised sed rate, CO2 or total protein = heat in blood; treat by bleeding luo points to clear heat before it causes hemorrhage. (Yuen) → ST-40 Fenglong, LU-10 Yuji, Anemia
- HT-5 Tongli (luo): Regulates heart qi, clears/calms shen by clearing heat (irritability, restlessness); goes to chest, tongue, eyes (loss of speech). (Gioioso) → HT-5 Tongli, SI-7 Zhizheng, ST-40 Fenglong
- KI-4 Dazhong: Bled at the luo point where veins are occluded near the inner ankle, for anemia with heat in the blood. (Yuen) → KI-4 Dazhong, LU-10 Yuji, ST-40 Fenglong, LIV-5 Ligou, PC-6 Neiguan
- Large intestine luo: Full: toothache, deafness; empty: cold teeth, diaphragmatic numbness. (Juedemann)
- Litsea cubeba + myrrh (Dai Mai): Litsea (top note) affects the luo and draws out what's held at the blood level; Dai Mai needs resins (myrrh preferred over elemi/frankincense) for deep-seated wounds; myrrh for full luo. (Yuen) → Litsea, Myrrh
- LU-10 Yuji: Bled for heat in the blood in anemia with inflammation markers; look for visible varicose/occluded vessels at luo points. (Yuen) → LU-10 Yuji, ST-40 Fenglong
- Lung cancer clearing blend (myrrh, peppermint, rosemary, German chamomile, hyssop linalool): Clearing strategy ~60% for heat/fire toxins: myrrh clears lung/stomach heat and acts on luo, hyssop linalool tonifies, rosemary directs to brain/spine; hyssop on LU-9 tonifies lung qi. (Yuen) → LU-9 Taiyuan, German Chamomile, Hyssop Linalool, Peppermint, Rosemary, Myrrh
- Luo and source points to balance left/right: Luo points balance qi between left and right of paired channels; test bilateral balance and correct with luo and source points for one-sided symptoms.
- Luo bleeding technique: Bleed luo points with a lancet; dark blood bleeds until clear — even one drop is a luo treatment; for empty luo, bleed then moxa. (Gioioso)
- Luo oils: myrrh/frankincense for fullness, parsley for emptiness: For latency/empty luo combine parsley with hyssop and apply to LU-9, BL-13, GB-37, Ren-15, SP-21; luo channels give an avenue to reduce in cancer. (Yuen) → GB-37 Guangming, REN-15 Jiuwei, SP-21 Dabao, Frankincense, Parsley, Myrrh
- Luo vessels: Bleeding luo is a vascular intervention; luo are formed postnatally from acquired failures (capacity created in utero). (Gioioso)
- Luo vessels — full vs empty: Always bleed the luo point, adding moxa if no blood rises; for empty luo, bleed then moxa until hot; luo holds pathology away from the source point. (Juedemann)
- LV-5 Ligou: Luo point bled for heat damaging liver blood in anemia. (Yuen) → LIV-5 Ligou, KI-4 Dazhong
- Palpation: sinew vs primary vs luo: A tender area may not be the primary channel; redness suggests a luo; for fibromyalgia touch only the cutaneous level, no harder than comfortable on your own eyeball. (Yuen) → Fibromyalgia
- PC-6 / HT-5 + GB-37 / LU-7 (circulation protocols): Systemic circulation: open with PC-6, close with GB-37; peripheral circulation: open with HT-5, close with LU-7; then bleed varicosities on yang luo (SI-7, LI-6, SJ-5). (Gioioso) → PC-6 Neiguan, HT-5 Tongli, GB-37 Guangming, LU-7 Lieque, PC-5 Jianshi
- PC-6 Neiguan: Luo point used going from liver to heart, in heat-in-blood anemia. (Yuen) → PC-6 Neiguan, KI-4 Dazhong
- PC-6 Neiguan (luo): Clears heat and inflammation, harmonizes the stomach, loosens the chest — but doesn't calm shen (HT-5 does); prevents pathology going inward to the brain. (Gioioso) → PC-6 Neiguan
- Ren Mai & Du Mai as final reservoirs of the luo system: Du-1 and Ren-15 (luo points of Du and Ren) mirror Batson's venous plexus; Ren and Du hold our deepest karmic patterns underlying chronic illness. (Lewis) → DU-1 Changqiang, REN-15 Jiuwei
- SI-7, SJ-5, SJ-6, ST-40, Ren-15, BL-58, LI-6, GB-37, LV-5, Du-1 (luo complements): Luo complements: SI-7 endocarditis heat; SJ-6 toxic heat; SJ-5 wind-damp bi; BL-58 heart-attack prodrome; LI-6 edema; ST-40/Ren-15 phlegm; GB-37; LV-5, Du-1 rectification. (Gioioso) → SI-7 Zhizheng, SJ-5 Waiguan, SJ-6 Zhigou, ST-40 Fenglong, REN-15 Jiuwei, UB-58 Feiyang, LI-6 Pianli, GB-37 Guangming, LIV-5 Ligou, DU-1 Changqiang
