Notes

  1. According to some sources, this herb removes Dampness, warms the Middle Jiao, moves Qi and invigorates the muscles.
  2. Chi Shi Zhi, Limonitum Yu Yu Liang and Per. Papaveris Ying Su Ke all bind the Intestines, stop diarrhea and stabilize to halt incessant uterine bleeding, and they are frequently combined to strengthen these effects. Yu Yu Liang is heavier than Chi Shi Zhi and astringes the lower Jiao without tonifying or augmenting the Stomach. Chi Shi Zhi, being sweet and warm, augments the Qi, generates flesh and adjusts the Middle, making it better suited to non-healing sores due to Qi Deficiency, and to diarrhea or uterine bleeding disorders from an inability to store securely. Ying Su Ke is light and slightly cold; it enters the Qi level and preserves the Lungs.
  3. Calcined Halloysite Duan Chi Shi Zhi is sweet, astringent and warm. Calcining strengthens its astringent nature and increases its ability to stop bleeding, vaginal discharge and diarrhea, and this form is generally preferred for internal use. Put it in a cotton bag before decocting.
