Notes
- Compared with Sm. Nelumbinis Lian Zi, this herb is a stronger astringent but a weaker tonic.
- It is suitable for thin semen resulting from excessive sexual activity.
- It cools the Heart, astringes Jing, blackens the hair, stops hematemesis and treats leakage and drainage.
- Lian Xu, Sm. Nelumbinis Lian Zi, Fossilia Ossis Mastodi Long Gu and Concha Ostreae Mu Li are all astringent by nature. Lian Xu is more astringent than Lian Zi and suits Jing exhausted by repeated sexual activity. Long Gu is Cold-binding; it astringes the Yin, settles the ethereal soul and quiets the corporeal soul. Mu Li is salty, astringent and cold, and it also transforms hardness and resolves Heat.
