Qi and Blood Stagnation

Notes

  1. Mei Gui Hua and Flos Albizziae He Huan Hua both regulate Qi and soothe constraint, and they are often combined to treat Liver Qi Stagnation with oppression in the chest and epigastrium. He Huan Hua is sweet and neutral, enters the Qi aspect of the Heart, Spleen and Lung channels, moves Qi and nourishes the Heart and Spleen. It calms more than Mei Gui Hua does and treats insomnia, poor memory and irritability. Mei Gui Hua is far more aromatic and moves Qi more powerfully.
  2. Mei Gui Hua and Flos Rosae Chinensis Yue Ji Hua both move Qi and Blood and are used for irregular menstruation, premenstrual breast distention and abdominal pain from Qi and Blood Stagnation. Mei Gui Hua works on the Qi, whereas Yue Ji Hua works on the Blood. Mei Gui Hua enters the Liver and Spleen channels and restores harmony among the Liver, Spleen and Stomach. It is commonly used for Liver Qi Stagnation Attacking the Spleen and Stomach, with a stifling feeling in the chest, belching, flank distention and anorexia. Yue Ji Hua enters only the Liver channel and moves Blood more strongly. It reduces swelling and resolves toxicity to treat sores from Qi and Blood Stagnation Transforming into Fire, and it also treats scrofula.
  3. Its action in regulating Qi and Blood is gentle.
