Notes

  1. Its name translates as “the stem that resists winter”.
  2. Its main uses are abscesses, sores and Wind-Damp-Heat-Bi.
  3. It can stand in for Flos Lonicerae Japonica Jin Yin Hua.
  4. Its actions concentrate on the channels.
  5. By unblocking the channels and collaterals it stops pain, as in Wind-Heat Bi.
  6. The dried vine acts less quickly than the fresh one.
  7. Ren Dong Teng and Flos Lonicerae Jin Yin Hua both clear Heat and resolve toxicity. Although weaker, Ren Dong Teng can expel Wind-Heat from the channels and collaterals to stop pain, something Jin Yin Hua cannot do. This makes Ren Dong Teng useful for Wind-Damp-Heat Bi as well as abscesses and sores.
  8. Ren Dong Teng and Caulis Sargentodoxae Hong Teng both resolve toxicity, reduce sores, clear Heat, and treat Bi Syndrome and abdominal pain. Ren Dong Teng clears Wind-Heat from the collaterals to relieve pain, whereas Hong Teng resolves toxicity, invigorates Blood, relieves pain and treats abscesses of the breast and abdomen.
