Notes

  • It is regarded as particularly useful for bleeding from the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts.
  • It is also reported to dispel Blood Stasis and promote the regrowth of skin.
  • For bleeding from External injuries or persistent bleeding after a tooth extraction, it can be applied topically on its own, either crushed fresh or as a powder.
  • Taken alone in decoction, it treats burns, sore throat, and red, painful eyes.
  • Zi Zhu, Rz. Bletillae Bai Ji, and Hb. Agrimoniae Xian He Cao all restrain and control bleeding. Bai Ji is strongest in this respect, followed by Xian He Cao, with Zi Zhu the weakest. For cooling Heat the order changes: Zi Zhu is strongest, then Bai Ji, and Xian He Cao is weakest.
  • Zi Zhu and Rx. Rubiae Qian Cao Gen both cool the Blood and stop bleeding. Qian Cao Gen additionally invigorates the Blood and unblocks the collaterals, making it better for bleeding involving Blood Stasis and Heat in the Blood. Zi Zhu is astringent, resolves toxicity and treats sores.
