Notes

  1. It nourishes the Heart and Spleen, generates flesh and has a pronounced Yin tonic effect.
  2. It helps focus the mind and brings happiness.
  3. Taken long term, it lightens the body, brightens the eyes and helps people reach their goals.
  4. It fosters affection and harmony within the family.
  5. Its action is moderate, so large doses taken over time are needed.
  6. He Huan Pi and the flower, Flos Albizziae He Huan Hua, are both sweet and neutral; both strengthen the Heart and Spleen, relieve constraint and calm the Spirit. He Huan Pi is slightly stronger at invigorating the Blood, stopping pain and reducing swelling, whereas He Huan Hua moves Liver Qi and is superior for soothing the Liver, unbinding the Stomach, improving memory, promoting sleep and brightening the eyes.
  7. Its main uses are insomnia, irritability and poor memory, particularly when these come with epigastric pain and a feeling of pressure in the chest.
  8. He Huan Pi and Caul. Polygoni Multiflori Ye Jiao Teng both calm the Spirit. He Huan Pi soothes Heart and Spleen Qi, invigorates the Blood, stops pain and rejoins sinews and bones. Ye Jiao Teng nourishes Heart and Liver Blood and expels Wind from the collaterals to relieve itching and treat skin disorders.
