Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Storehouse is for taking in nourishment on a mental level. The Stomach is the great storehouse, and this point is a place of reserves for all that nourishes body, mind and spirit, to be called on when running on empty. For an anorexic it is a wonderful point: perhaps there is a single thing in the larder they can manage to take in. It is a storehouse for the mind as well, for memory and the subconscious, like taking someone to the larder or pantry and letting them choose what they want or need.

Worsley

Location: In the 1st intercostal space, 4 ACI from the midline, on the paramedian nipple line.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 5 cones

When to Consider
  • When a person needs to take in nourishment on a mental level
  • When someone with anorexia might discover a single thing in the larder they can take in
  • When someone is running on empty and needs to call on their reserves
  • When a person is exhausted from overwork and overthinking and has no sense of harvest for themselves
  • To make sure the patient can take in the practitioner's care, when you're not sure they have started to receive
  • When long-term deprivation, or giving out too much for too long, has emptied the person's own storehouse
  • For lack of appetite on every level
  • For great depletion: wasting, exhaustion, lack of motivation, a sense the patient really needs filling; it gives the comfort of knowing there are reserves
  • For the physical or psychological aftermath of stress or traumatic emotional events
Combinations
  • SP-20 with ST-14: strengthens its effect when there is exhaustion and no sense of harvest
Notes
  • For an Earth Causative Factor (CF)
  • Use in winter, when Earth is low
