Yang Qiao Mai – Yang Motility Vessel
Chinese: 陽蹻脈 English: Yang Motility Vessel
Confluent (master) point: UB-62 Couple point: SI-3
Pathway
- Begins at UB-62, goes down to UB-61, then up to UB-59.
- Rises along the posterior border of the fibula.
- Climbs the lateral thigh to the hip at GB-29.
- Crosses the shoulder through SI-10, LI-15 and LI-16.
- Rises along the neck to the face, meeting ST-4, ST-3, ST-1 and UB-1, where it joins the Yin Qiao vessel.
- Curves over the side of the head to meet GB-20 and enters the brain.
Points on the Vessel
UB-62, UB-61, UB-59, GB-29, SI-10, LI-15, LI-16, ST-4, ST-3, ST-1, UB-1, GB-20
Indications
- Daytime epilepsy
- Eye diseases
- Loss of consciousness
- Aversion to wind
- Hemiplegia
- Chronic painful obstruction
- Rigidity of the body
- Lumbar pain
- Contracted sinews
- Flaccid muscles of the medial leg with tight muscles of the lateral leg
Notes
- Pairing: UB-62 (Yang Qiao, foot) with SI-3 (Du, hand); both marked Yang (+) in the pairing table.
- UB-62 is the confluent (opening) point of the Yang Qiao; used for tension of the outer leg, and SI-3 + UB-62 for the spine and brain.
- Insomnia: reduce UB-62 and reinforce KI-6. Somnolence: reinforce UB-62 and reduce KI-6. UB-1 can be added in both cases.
- Epilepsy: UB-62 for seizures in the daytime, KI-6 for seizures at night.
- UB-59 is the Xi-Cleft of the Yang Qiao; it clears obstruction from the channel and invigorates the Yang Qiao.
- GB-29 is a local point for Bi syndrome of the hip (GB-29 + GB-30).
- SI-10 is a crossing point of the Yang Qiao and Yang Wei and a local point for shoulder problems.
- LI-15 lies anterior and inferior to the acromion while SJ-14 lies posterior and inferior; LI-15 clears obstruction from the channel and expels Wind-Damp. LI-15 + LI-16 are combined.
- ST-4 expels Wind (deviation of eye and mouth, trigeminal neuralgia), clears obstruction from the channel and affects the facial muscles, so it can be used for aphasia; ST-4 and ST-6 can be threaded 1-1.5 cun, combined with LI-4.
- ST-3 treats eye problems, Wind in the face and serves as a local point for the nose.
- ST-1 is a crossing point of the Yang Qiao and Ren Mai, used mostly for the eyes and to expel Wind from the face.
- UB-1 is a crossing point of the UB, SI, ST, Yang Qiao and Yin Qiao and is used mainly for eye diseases.
- GB-20 is a crossing point of the Yang Qiao and Yang Wei (see Yang Wei for its functions).
