Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

No vessel in the body is more yang than the Governor Vessel, and no point on it is more yang than this one. It connects with the very source of yang energy, with energy, vitality, movement and heat, and it is used to bring the yang surging back. Utmost Yang, Spirit Tower and Spirit Path bring the patient somewhere wonderful; they open the Heavens apart and show them where to be. For general weariness, drooping and weakness it brings heat and Yang energy, makes the person upright again and holds things up.

Worsley

Location: On the back midline, in the dip between the T7 and T8 spinous processes.
Needle depth: 5 fen
Moxa: 7 cones

When to Consider
  • When there needs to be a resurgence of the yang in someone's life
  • When there is a lack of resilience, animation and vision
  • When there is depression from stagnation and a lack of growth and vision
  • When the bones ache; remember, it's the spine's job to hold everything up
  • For extremes of Yang: in excess, too passionate with a fiery temper, or deficient, so inert they couldn't care less
  • When there is general aching all over, physically or mentally
Combinations
  • DU-10 Spirit Tower and DU-11 Spirit Path with DU-9: take the patient to a higher place and open the spirit to a larger sense of purpose
Notes
  • It's like a Horary point on the Governor Vessel
  • Be very, very careful: the patient must be near balanced, since it lifts energy to a higher place
  • Make sure a resurgence of yang is what is needed

From Class

  • Anointing the Seven Stars of the Great Dipper: Anoint seven levels of the central axis from Ren-1/Du-1 up to Du-20 so the spirits ascend through the crown; front Ren points can substitute for back Du points. (Lewis)
