Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Diaphragm Correspondence corresponds to the diaphragm and is the Gathering point of the Blood. When the Blood is weak, the spirit has no comfortable place to rest, and a person feels insecure, restless and not fully in their body or in life. If a person has trouble breathing, it brings the breath down into the body.

Worsley

Opens a direct, immediate and free channel to our capacity to breathe in and out, taking in and letting go not only of air but of ideas, opinions, suggestions, feelings, inspiration and sensations. A dynamic exchange arises within us that revitalizes us and fuels the feeling of being acutely alive.

  • In Worsley's list it is the Associated Effect Point of the diaphragm. He gives it as a First Aid point for numbness and hiccups.

Location: On the back, 2 ACI from the midline, level with the dip between the T7 and T8 spinous processes.
Needle depth: 4 fen
Moxa: 7-20 cones

When to Consider
  • When a person has trouble breathing and needs the breath brought down into the body
  • When a person feels insecure and not fully present in their body or in life
  • When mind and spirit feel frail, fretful and restless
  • When someone feels cold in body or spirit
Notes
  • Gathering (Hui) point of the Blood
  • The emergency point for hiccups
