Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

A gutter is drainage: it carries away excess fluid and junk. The gutters that sluice away the rubbish matter just as much as the irrigation ditches; they also lead fluid away from places that do not need it to places that do. This often overlooked point flushes out the Three Heater so it can relate to others free of cynicism and know a clear, even joy.

Worsley

Classical Chinese connects Fourth Gutter to China's four great rivers, which flow in all four directions. This point lets Fire blaze and flow in every direction, and when love flows in this unfettered, appropriate way, our life comes into harmony.

Location: On the back of the forearm, 7 ACI above the wrist crease, between radius and ulna.
Needle depth: 6 fen
Moxa: 3-7 cones

When to Consider
  • When people get stuck in old things and old junk in their life
  • When a Three Heater Causative Factor (CF) is out of balance and holding on to food or things they do not need
  • When there is cynicism, a lack of warmth or erratic behavior
  • When the person lurches between highs and lows, or sinks into inertia
  • When the person needs to clear debris from their past in order to mature into who they may become
  • When balance cannot be reached on the Three Heater; the gutter may be blocked, so clear it out and revitalize body, mind and spirit
  • When a person needs to feel free to speak; it opens the throat and voice
  • To give hope that a relationship may return
  • When someone seems to be sinking inwardly into the mire; like a rain gutter, it carries the water away before it gets into the building
Notes
  • Supports the Three Heater in its protective role
  • If SJ-4 does little, add this point to raise the volume of flow
