Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

This Gate gives us the ability to move, and lets every fluid and essence be carried through the body. Being the Water within the Fire, its effect is seen in how fluid and yielding we can be, how expansive, and how we can then withdraw when the time is right. That may be physical, in sweating and shivering, or mental and spiritual, in how we relate to others and how enthusiastic we are about life. It brings water into or onto the fire, like squirting the coals to cool them down a little, and it cools and gives fluid communication on every level, at just the right temperature.

Worsley

Guarantees that all our moving parts flow harmoniously.

Location: On the posteromedial (posteroulnar) side of the ring finger, a little distal to the base of its proximal phalanx.
Needle depth: 1 fen
Moxa: 3 cones

When to Consider
  • When a person is dried out, with no fluidity, and needs to open up
  • When someone is rigid and not flowing on a mental level
  • When Water is not controlling Fire and there are volatile, hot-tempered outbursts
  • When the gate is jammed open and the person feels swept off and flooded by their own thoughts
  • When there is a lack of flow and the person needs a sense of 'going along with the world'
  • When the mind wanders with a loss of stability
  • When the shoulders, elbows and wrists can no longer exchange loving embraces
  • When the spirit is agitated from too much Heat or not enough Water
  • When things are dammed up and frozen and sexual energy is present but held in check; it lets the waters flow and brings spontaneity
  • When the person bubbles over out of control
  • When shock or emotional agitation leaves the person running hot or cold
Notes
  • Water point and Spring point of the Three Heater
  • Use for a Fire Causative Factor (CF) who is having fluid problems
  • Worth considering for every patient
  • In winter it can bring warmth to the Water CF
  • The circulation of heat depends a great deal on fluids. Without fluidity adjustments are hard to make; with it, a person can give clear and fitting attention to things
  • Regulates the movement of fluid and Qi between the three burners, the levels and the Officials
