Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Second Interval is the Water point and Sedation point on the Colon. It is good when vision is confused and cloudy, whether in body, mind or spirit. The Water element brings the Colon its fluidity and adaptability, which calms, cleanses and lubricates an Official that tends toward stuckness and rigidity, and the interval in its name recalls the quiet, routine rhythms that Metal needs to work smoothly. Water oils the rigid areas of life. As the Water point it governs the balance of Water in Metal, lubricating the Official so it can eliminate on every level.

Worsley
  • Not to be needled from the 9th month of pregnancy onward

Location: On the posterolateral (posteroradial) side of the index finger, a little distal to the base of its proximal phalanx.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 3 cones

When to Consider
  • When vision is confused and cloudy, whether in body, mind or spirit
  • When a person is rigid and stuck and needs fluidity to let the process of life happen
  • When someone keeps reaching for more of what they think will satisfy them or prop up their sense of self, even though it never does
  • When the Large Intestine needs calming, cleansing and lubricating on every level
  • For the 'second interval' of a life situation, such as a change of career
  • When the person is hard on themselves or others; Water helps them move, let go as things change and go with the flow
Notes
  • Water point, Sedation point and Spring point of the Large Intestine
