Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Yang Valley is a good stimulant and gives an extra jolt to the person. It shakes up the Fire and clears away the ashes, letting the Small Intestine sort effectively. Treat it as Fire within the Fire, or as the Horary point at the right time. It helps the person see relationships more clearly, where perhaps there is no joy or excess joy, and it brings the clarity to see the right path among many. A Yang valley is sunny, warm and full of energy, a gathering place of light and Yang. It brings in the joy of discrimination, the true alchemist at work, and helps the Official mature and use its experience in sorting. Blowing away the ashes lets you see what is really there and gives the Small Intestine a kick-start in its work of refining energy; the Fire draws on its own stored energies, building the spiritual flame and adjusting it to burn as it should.

Worsley

Location: On the ulnar border of the hand, in the dip separating the head of the ulna from the triquetral bone.
Needle depth: 2 fen
Moxa: 3-7 cones

When to Consider
  • When the patient is weak, despairing, dispirited and cannot cope
  • When the patient craves warmth
  • When there is no joy, or excess joy
  • When the person needs to see relationships more clearly
  • When the Fire rages beyond control: excessive laughter, flying into a rage, instability, the mind going out of control, excessive talking
  • When the person is too rushed and agitated to sort what is important from what is not
  • When the spirit is too contaminated to feel the deep joy of being alive
  • For a patient worn out by struggle
  • When there is guilt about following one's Heart
  • When speech is rapid with no sense of what needs saying and what can be left out
  • When the Fire is covered with dead ashes and suppressed, leaving the person no room to breathe
Notes
  • Fire point and Horary point of the Small Intestine: Horary time 1 to 3 pm, and in summer, the Fire season
  • Less crucial to use only at the Horary time
  • Can sedate Fire within the Fire, but not between 1 and 3 pm
  • A good point for moxa when the patient craves warmth
