Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

A pond is a reservoir. From this pond the ditches and sluices are fed, which the Chinese call the communication network. Water is a strong image for the Three Heater: water can communicate and restore warmth, harmony and stillness, which are our first level of energy and the primary source level from which we communicate. As the Source point of the Official that spreads the Original Qi, it is like the source of all source points, and it helps the Three Heater keep all the other Officials temperate and united. It is a pool of light; draw on it and carry the sunlight out to the rest of the body. A sunny, warm pond that gives off heat and reaches right to the Official's source.

Worsley

Accumulates and stores nature's gifts, giving every cell of our being the appropriate amount of internal sunshine. Radiant with warmth and joy, we hold within us the potential for a life that is free, happy and passionate.

  • Worsley gives it as a First Aid point for earache.
  • Not to be needled from the 3rd month of pregnancy onward

Location: At the back (dorsal) wrist crease, proximal to the 4th metacarpal, in the wrist hollow bounded by radius, ulna and lunate.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: No moxa

When to Consider
  • When the spirit cannot keep up its enthusiasms and life seems flat, without a steady, warm glow
  • When a person rages with passion one minute and forgets what delighted them the next
  • When a person's range of comfort is so narrow that small changes upset them, or they feel too chilled to think or to reach out
  • When warmth and steadiness are needed for Heart, mind and body
  • When distress or strain first begin to ripple
Notes
  • Source point of the Three Heater
  • Used more than any other point on this meridian
  • Can work very well to lower high blood pressure; moxa may help when blood pressure needs raising
  • Can do what SJ-1, SJ-2 and SJ-3 do, though to a lesser degree
