Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

The Gallbladder meridian begins beside the eye, a fitting lookout for the Upright Official of Decisions and Judgment. Before deciding to act we need to look around, turn, and weigh the options; once we decide, we gather ourselves and look straight ahead without hesitating. Here the two sides of Wood meet, the Gallbladder's judgment and the Liver's planning, and the point brings clarity and vision to body, mind and spirit. Here a person can make out a clear picture of the world, even as it shows itself as an unpredictable pattern, and clearly make out the path's first step. This point bears directly on the quality of discernment a person brings to themselves and to the world. Heat here is the by-product of frustration: something has blocked progress, and the emotional work of trying to move the stagnation has generated heat. Wind is anything that moves unpredictably, and that outer confusion undermines the clarity of a person's vision.

Worsley

Location: Level with the outer corner (lateral canthus) of the eye, in the dip just outside the bony rim of the orbit.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 5 cones

When to Consider
  • When a person lacks vision and clarity
  • When indecision and uncertainty plague a person's life
  • When someone lacks the courage to decide, to make judgments, to grow and to assert themselves
  • When short-sightedness at any level makes the person hesitate to act
  • When there is no light, or when everything is someone else's fault
  • When the world looks like a chaotic series of unconnected events and the person can't discern a clear picture
Notes
  • Entry point of the Gallbladder meridian; it sends energy surging into the meridian, though other entry points are more powerful
  • Used to clear a Three Heater to Gallbladder (SJ-22 to GB-1) Entry-Exit block: uptight, judgmental and bitter, with no warmth to soften the judgment
  • Great local point for eye twitching
