Notes

  • This is an important distal point for chronic one-sided migraine headache due to Liver Fire or Liver Yang Rising.

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

For excess Wood: sedate it into the Fire, for anger and excess pulses. It brings warmth and vitality to the meridian. As the Fire point within Wood it brings the maturing power of Fire to Wood's unfolding potential, helping the person act decisively, look forward with courage and take the next step. It brings joy and warmth and sets things in motion with vigorous, purposeful forward movement, giving the spirit the support of Yang.

Worsley

Location: On the outer lower leg, 4 ACI above the lateral malleolus prominence; lying face up with the knee half bent, it is found in front of the fibula's edge.
Needle depth: 6 fen
Moxa: 5-15 cones

When to Consider
  • When there is excess Wood with anger
  • When there is extreme coldness in body and mind and the person is now ready for sunshine
  • When there is no future, no plans and no aims
  • When there is excessive sighing
  • When timidity comes with immaturity and the person cannot take their place in the world
  • When there is irritability and no sense of development
  • When the patient has resigned and needs a good kick
  • When the person is stuck in planning with no action: "What's the use?"
  • When anger has left the person cold
Combinations
  • DU-1 with GB-38: for a stronger kick
Notes
  • Fire point and Sedation point of the Gallbladder
  • Use this point a lot
  • With extreme coldness, moxa may be needed first; use only once the patient is ready for sunshine
  • A person lacking Fire within Wood sighs a lot
  • Fu also names the pole fixed to a cart so it does not tip over; the fibula, in front of which the point lies, is called the 'assisting bone' in Chinese
