Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Throws wood onto the Fire and brings in the directness of Wood. It is a strength that marches on and revitalizes the patient, revitalizing the middle of the person. It brings heat, warmth and light to the blood, rekindling and awakening the Fire as it is fed more wood, and gives a feeling of vital impetuosity. It is a direct path into our own middle, with energy from the Mother. It connects mother with child, so the patient is calmed, fed and nourished: fuel for the fire, as a child needs a mother's love to live and grow. It helps projects, or the person, ripen and bear fruit, and gives access to the core.

Worsley

Lets the full force of our heart guide our life along the glorious middle path of humility and moderation.

  • Worsley gives it as a First Aid point for resuscitation and anxiety.

Location: Radial-side nail point, middle finger.
Needle depth: 1 fen
Moxa: 3 cones

When to Consider
  • To make them more decisive, with more planning
  • For the capacity to set boundaries with people and say what they want, versus not knowing or being able to say what they want
  • If the Fire is burning low, to heat up the person
  • For uncontrollable sexual habits, with a possible lack of affection
  • For people who find it hard to express themselves
  • When the Heart Protector is stuck, hopeless and too beaten down to start afresh
  • When mind and body have become cut off from one another, or after severe fright
  • For fear of being engulfed
  • When the person is cold at the core or in relationships: "I'm not able to take love in"
  • For isolation, addiction to love, or hypersexuality where sex satisfies only briefly because it doesn't touch the core
  • When success brings no happiness and the emptiness remains: "Nothing is ever enough"
  • For those who feel lost in intimacy, who wear out Heart and mind and still find no fulfillment in relationships; it brings Wood's resilience, self-esteem and vision to a Heart in despair after many violations
Combinations
  • PC-7 Great Mound or PC-8 Palace of Weariness before PC-9: poke the fire first if needed
  • GB-1 Orbit Bone with PC-9: brings discernment and self-esteem together with Fire's intuition
  • LIV-1 Great Esteem with PC-9: integrates Wood's discernment and self-esteem with the intuition of Fire
Notes
  • Wood point, Well point and Tonification point of the Pericardium
  • Make sure there is enough wood and that a bigger fire is really wanted; too much fuel can sometimes put a fire out
  • Acts directly on the mental level

From Class

  • PC-8 / PC-9: PC-8 ying-spring clears heat; PC-9 jing-well clears heat — the highest point in the body in Chinese anatomical position (arms raised). (Gioioso)
  • Du-26, Du-25, PC-6, PC-9 (resuscitation sequence): Deep Du-26 and Du-25 then shallow PC-6 and PC-9 bring Wei qi to the chest and heart; repeat for brain trauma when consciousness doesn't return. (Gioioso)
  • Jing-well indications (overview): Jing-wells open the portals and resuscitate yang: PC-9, SI-1, HT-9 for behavior change; LU-11, LI-1 throat; SP-1 stops bleeding; HT-9 tongue pain, heart attack. (Gioioso)
  • Orifice-opening alternatives: LI-1, SI-1, PC-9: Besides Du-15, LI-1, SI-1 and PC-9 open the orifices; the strategy matters more than the specific point. (Yuen)
  • Orifice-opening points by archetype: LI-1, ST-7, SI-1, PC-9, HT-9, KI-1, BL-63: Yang channels open orifices: LI-1, ST-7, SI-1; yin exceptions PC-9, HT-9, KI-1; water: BL-63 Jinmen (his favorite); not all jing-wells open orifices. (Yuen)
  • Wang Qingren resuscitation protocol: Du-26, Du-25, PC-6 (shallow), PC-9 (shallow): Brings circulation back into the brain and Wei qi back in after loss of consciousness/brain injury (originally from cardiology). (Gioioso)
  • Reverse five-element release sequence: Release the elements in reverse: Metal LU-11, Fire HT-9 (or PC-9), Water KI-2, Earth SP-21, Wood LV-14. (Lewis)
