Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

'Bamboo' refers to the eyebrow, curved like a bamboo leaf drawn in a single calligraphy stroke. This is a spirit point on the Three Heater: silk is the finest substance, and it takes warmth right down into the hollow so heat can go in deep, for the person who is hot on the outside but whose essence is cold and wants warming. It is like blowing on nearly extinguished embers, and it can also calm a Fire that is raging beyond control. It integrates Heaven (silk), Man (bamboo) and Earth (hollow), balancing these three so a person can feel Fire on every level. The last point of the meridian, the outermost reach of the Fire element, brings that outer fire back into the person's depths, like bamboo drawing the energy of its flower back into its hollow core. Bamboo in the imperial palace stood for the empty Heart ready to receive every good and virtuous suggestion, as the Emperor should be ready to hear his ministers.

Worsley

Ensures that we discover the strength of grace by accepting emptiness.

Location: In the hollow at the outer end of the eyebrow, straight above GB-1.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: No moxa

When to Consider
  • When the Fire has gone out and the person is cold to the core of the Heart, unable to connect with others in friendship or in love
  • When deep joy and delight in life have disappeared
  • When the person is warm on the outside but cold at the core
  • When Fire is raging beyond control and the spirit is disturbed
  • When Fire is turned outward as a way of avoiding intimacy: social chatter that never reaches the heart of the matter, or so many social commitments that there is no intimacy with one's partner
  • When behavior is extroverted or false and needs bringing back inward
Combinations
  • SJ-5 Outer Frontier Gate and SJ-15 Heavenly Bone with SJ-23: these points together do the regulating of warmth
Notes
  • Balanced by SJ-11 Pure Cold Abyss, which cools
  • Compare it with SJ-1: the first point pushes a withdrawn person to widen their horizons, while the last returns an outward-turned Fire to its core
  • A blood brother of UB-1 Eyes Bright
