Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

The place where the three Yang meridians of the arm, Small Intestine, Colon and Three Heater, come together, so it affects them all at once. It gathers and strengthens the Yang side of the Three Heater and of Fire, restoring animation and vitality when the Official is too tired to lift and balance itself, and it brings clarity and ease to the mind's communication.

Worsley

Releases creative power, much as Earth receiving Heaven's intensity ignites conception and unleashes creation's force. When parts join within us and with others, they forge an alliance far more powerful and dynamic than their mere sum.

  • Worsley treated this point as forbidden to needle. Save it for when the three Officials are already in reasonable balance; used too early to draw disparate levels together, it may bring little response. It suits the person who will not move, sleeps a great deal and is very inactive: the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
  • A very dynamic point, vital to communication in the top half of the body, which clears out rubbish and eases the flame in general.

Location: On the back of the forearm, 4 ACI above the wrist crease, between radius and ulna.
Needle depth: Do not needle
Moxa: 7 cones

When to Consider
  • When the Three Heater is worn out and cannot lift itself
  • When there is inertia, a loss of vitality and a lack of joy and enthusiasm
  • When the person feels emotionally and physically cold
  • When communication has become erratic and the ability to manage relationships with tact has been abandoned
  • When the spirit is keen yet the flesh is weak and the body would rather stay still
  • When old negativity needs clearing out so the person can experience some new joy and get out and do something fun
  • When someone hates getting up in the morning and moves slowly, or is inactive and completely exhausted, sleeping a great deal
Notes
  • Works more on the physical level, linked with warmth, activity and movement, though it can be used on the mental level
  • Use only once a reasonable balance has been reached among the three Officials; used too early to draw separate levels together, it may give little response
  • Invigorates Yang to clear out toxic thoughts and emotional poisons
  • Traditionally listed as forbidden to needle
