Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Third Interval is the Wood point on the Colon; think of it for its woody characteristics. It is for someone who needs to let go in order to make their plans and make things happen. Use it when the patient needs room, an interval in which earlier treatments can work through naturally. Wood's forward movement can refresh a Colon that is clinging to the past, and its decisiveness can call a halt when the Colon refines and picks apart everything endlessly.

Worsley

Location: On the back of the hand, on the radial side of the 2nd metacarpal, immediately proximal to its head.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 3 cones

When to Consider
  • When someone needs to let go in order to make their plans and make things happen
  • When the patient needs room, an interval in which earlier treatments can work through naturally
  • When there is negativity about the future
  • When a person clings to old hurts or past glories and refuses to consider change
  • When obsessive refining and perfectionism alienate the person and frustrate those around them
  • When there is constipation at any level
  • When a loss has left someone stuck in anger and frustration, unable to get organized, see ahead or plan; Wood in Metal helps
  • When the person is overly emotional and can't let go
Notes
  • Wood point and Stream point of the Large Intestine
  • Third interval suggests change
