Contraindications

  • Contraindicated to needle for those with ascites.
  • Contraindicated for moxibustion during pregnancy.
  • Some say this point should not be needled just warmed with moxa.

Notes

  • This is a very important point to use whenever there is Dampness, Phlegm or edema.
  • Use this point when you can't harmonize the Bladder and Kidneys.
  • It is good for all Internal secretions.
  • It is good for the fluidity of the mind and of the limbs.
  • It balances the endocrine and lymphatic systems.
  • This is the main water control point in the body.
  • It is located just above where the Small Intestine separates the pure from the turbid.
  • REN-9, ST-28 and UB-39 are key points for water metabolism.

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Water Division works with the Small Intestine to sort fluids from solids and pure from impure. It helps balance every secretion, fluid and hormone; don't confine it to water, since it balances secretions on all levels. It gives fluidity to the mind and body and is good for separating the clear from the unclear, the appropriate from the inappropriate.

Worsley

Location: On the front midline, 1 ACI above the umbilicus.
Needle depth: 5 fen
Moxa: 5-15 cones

When to Consider
  • When people are running on high and cannot slow down
  • When a person cannot separate the appropriate from the inappropriate
  • When the mind and spirit need help moving easily between one state or thought and the next
  • When you have worked on the Bladder and Kidney for a while and somehow the patient still won't come into balance
  • When a person is dried up in spirit
  • When there is movement in one part of body, mind and spirit and not in another
  • When things need washing away or a stagnation needs breaking up; use moxa to break the ice and reach the reservoir
  • Especially for a Water CF when the Kidney and Bladder won't hold securely
  • When the mind is stuck, or rambles on and on
  • When the person says, "It's as if I'm cut in two"
Notes
  • Junction point for the whole of body, mind and spirit
  • Where there is chaos already, it creates more turbulence
  • Learn whether to supply or drain: Water may be damming up from lack of energy to carry it on, or from too much coming in
