Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Lubrication Food Gate is for people who feel bloated and full, when food sits like a brick in the stomach. It helps processing and digestion and lubricates the nourishment of body, mind and spirit right in the center. It is for when someone cannot stomach something on any level, and in general it brings more energy to the whole body. A gate that all nourishment on every level must pass through, it lets nourishment reach deep inside where it truly satisfies, with the right amount of fluid for that.

Worsley

Location: On the abdomen, 3 ACI from the midline and 1 ACI above the umbilicus level, beside REN-9.
Needle depth: 8 fen
Moxa: 5-15 cones

When to Consider
  • When food sits like a brick in the stomach and the person feels full and bloated
  • When someone cannot stomach something on any level
  • When a person keeps steering around issues instead of processing them, or has become mentally blocked
  • When what has been taken in is not nourishing the person
  • When transformation stays in the mind and does not reach the body
  • For obsessive rehashing, thinking something over and over without ever completing it
  • When a person eats yet is not nourished, as though the gates are locked and nothing moves through
  • When something has hit a person right in the middle: 'it got me in the gut'
  • When the person says, "Nothing satisfies me" or "I can't take this in"
Combinations
  • SP-16 with ST-24: a very good combination
Notes
  • One of the group ST-19, ST-20, ST-24 and ST-25 that moves Qi through the middle
  • Dryness and Fire in the Stomach can drive the Qi upward against its flow, which injures the Heart and can show as losing one's mind in rage or craziness
