Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Heavenly Window is for confusion you realize you are able to sort out; then it all becomes clear and drops into place. The Small Intestine Official can become cluttered, confused, frustrated or completely powerless. With a clean window, light enters and things grow clear. Without light there can be no purity; a dirty or shuttered window keeps the light out, and the Official becomes frustrated when all it can see is impurity. Through the Heavenly Window you are able to see your God. As the polluted veil is lifted and things brighten, it reminds a person of what is right for them and what their purpose in the universe is. Letting the light in makes it possible to tell pure from impure at a deep level, even when all looks black, to separate them and draw out what is good, and it gives a glimpse of Heaven. It opens a dark, dingy prison of impure thoughts like throwing open a window: the smoke and fog clear and air and light come in.

Worsley

Location: On the side of the neck, level with the laryngeal prominence (Adam's apple), on the back edge of sternocleidomastoid.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 3 cones

When to Consider
  • For confusion you realize you are able to sort out
  • When the Official has become cluttered, confused, frustrated or completely powerless
  • When the Official sees only impurity and gets frustrated
  • When information overloads the patient and they feel depressed, pressured or confused because there is no time or peace of mind to digest it
  • When there is heaviness and sluggishness in the head with confusion about the correct course of action
  • When the person has lost vision and purpose and feels murky and clouded
  • For deep resignation on the spiritual level, when a person cannot set priorities or see what matters and what is needed
  • When a person is ready to move on to another level or stage
  • When a person is not engaged from the Heart and needs to find purity, love, an expression of the Heart and a sense of purpose
  • When the person has the energy, reserves and desire, but simply can't see through the impurity; everything looks dark and muddled
  • When the window is stuck open: the person seems permanently dazzled and can't see clearly
Combinations
  • SI-17 Heavenly Appearance after SI-16: use SI-16 first, then SI-17; the person may truly see the Heavens appear
Notes
  • Window of the Sky point: use with care and respect, once trust is built
  • Using both Small Intestine Windows in one treatment is very unusual
  • Window points are among the strongest for correcting a gap between the Heart and the mind, and so for lessening habitual behavior

From Class

  • SI-16 Tianchuang: The only Window of Heaven point that nourishes the heart, quiets the shen and dispels wind (not SJ-16, ST-9, LI-18) — 'gives you a hug'. (Yuen)
  • Jing-wells, Du-26, Ren-24, Windows of Sky (BL-10, SI-16, SJ-16, SI-17): Jing-wells expel wind and revive; Du-26, Ren-24 revive spirit, clear wind and heat; Windows of Sky open orifices — BL-10 frees atlas/axis. (Shea)
