SJ-13 Naohui - Shoulder Meeting

More Spirit Names: Shoulder Convergence, Upper Arm Convergence, Upper Arm Shu

English: Upper Arm Meeting
Also Known As: Shoulder's Meeting
Shoulder Convergence

Location

  • 3 cun directly below SJ-14 Jianliao at the posterior margin of the deltoid muscle.
  • On the upper arm, on a line drawn between SJ-10 Tianjing and SJ-14 Jianliao, 4 cun proximal to SJ-10 Tianjing and 6 cun distal to SJ-14 Jianliao. (Secondary source)
Note: locate in the depression within the triceps muscle, posterior to the shaft of the humerus (between the muscle bellies of the long and lateral heads of the triceps). Although most sources specify both a distance of 3 cun directly below SJ-14 Jianliao at the posterior margin of the deltoid muscle, this does not usually correspond. In practice, palpate the region to find the most tender location.
  • On the line joining SJ-14 Jianliao and the olecranon, on the posterior border of the m. deltoideus.
  • On the upper arm, where the line drawn between SJ-10 and SJ-14 meets the posterior border of the deltoid muscle, approximately two thirds of the distance between these two points (Secondary source)

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

A point that warms and moves the whole shoulder area, but its reach is not purely physical. As a meeting with the vessel that links all the Yang, it strengthens the warm, bright, moving qualities of the Three Heater and carries them up toward the Heavenly part of the body, helping the Official stay in touch with its higher purpose.

Worsley

Embraces virtue and strength so that we may live every aspect of life with dignity.

Location: On the middle of the back of the upper arm, over triceps, where the deltoid's lower border lies.
Needle depth: 3-7 fen
Moxa: 5-15 cones

When to Consider
  • When the spirit of the Three Heater needs to be brightened and reconnected
  • When the person has lost touch with Heaven and with a higher purpose
  • When someone needs help to shoulder the burden, physically, mentally or in spirit
Notes
  • Definitely consider moxa
