Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Receiving Fluid, at the bottom of the lip, is the Exit point of the Conception Vessel, which flows on to meet the Governor Vessel and complete the circuit of yin and yang. It has a very strong spirit connotation. It brings the fluids and secretions into body and mind so the person can flow freely; it enhances mind and spirit, bathing and cleansing. It makes an opening so a person can drink from the fluids of life, letting life in and dissolving barriers. The Officials are bathed in the essence of the spirit's fluids, bringing insight and gratitude. It is Water that bathes and cleanses, washing out stagnation and inner tension.

Worsley

Location: On the front midline, in the hollow between the lower lip and the point of the chin.
Needle depth: 1-3 fen
Moxa: 3-7 cones

When to Consider
  • When the patient is like a dried prune, withered mentally, spiritually or physically
  • When there are a lot of fears, and the fears are excessive
  • When the spirit feels wrung out and totally jaded and needs to be deeply refreshed
  • When agitation and anxiety run rampant and the person needs security and order
  • When there are panic attacks and a fear of meeting people
  • When the Conception Vessel is stuck or traumatized
  • For a person reaching toward the truth: "I can see how I'm hurting myself, but I can't stop"
  • When there is a lack of coordination, a keynote for this point: anything that keeps parts of body and mind from corresponding
Combinations
  • REN-4 First Gate and REN-14 Great Deficiency with REN-24: calm Kidney fear and Heart anxiety
Notes
  • Exit point of the Conception Vessel; one of the 13 Ghost points
  • An excellent point to use apart from a Conception/Governor Vessel (CV/GV) treatment; for instance, a Water Causative Factor (CF) can use it to wash away impurities and stagnation
  • Relaxes, smooths over anxiety and eases coordination
