REN-22 Tiantu - Heaven Rushing Out

More Spirit Names: Heaven Projection, Celestial Chimney, Heaven's Chimney, Celestial Rush, Jade Door

English: Heavenly Prominence
Also Known As: Heaven Rushing Out
Heavenly Chimney
Heaven's Prominence
Heaven's Chimney
Heaven Projection

Location

  • 0.5 cun above the suprasternal notch, in the middle of the depression.
  • In the center of the supraclavicular fossa.
  • On the midline, in the center of the suprasternal fossa, 0.5 cun superior to the suprasternal notch.

Needling

  • Transverse insertion, first insert perpendicularly for 0.2 to 0.4 cun, then point the needle downward along the posterior side of the manubrium sterni, anterior to the trachea, approximately 1 to 1.5 cun. Sensation: local distention and soreness and a constricted sensation around the pharynx.
  • Straight insertion 0.3 to 0.5 cun. Sensation: local distention and soreness.
  • Caution: when making the transverse insertion, use caution to avoid inserting the needle too deeply and puncturing the aorta or anonyma arteries. An excessively deep straight insertion will puncture the trachea. Avoid straying too far to the right or left, particularly in cases of emphysema, where the needle may puncture the Lung or subclavian artery.
  • First puncture perpendicularly 0.2 cun, and then insert the needle tip downward along the posterior aspect of the sternum, 0.5 to 1 cun.
  • Moxibustion is applicable.
  • Perpendicular insertion 0.3 cun.
  • With the neck extended, needle first perpendicularly 0.2 to 0.3 cun, then direct the needle inferiorly along the posterior border of the manubrium of the sternum 0.5 to 1 cun.

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Heaven Rushing Out lies between the rest of the body and the head and heavens. The neck is where earth gives way to heaven, where spirits enter and come in and out, and many images of spirits passing in and out gather here. If it shuts, the person is left cut off, depressed and imprisoned in darkness; the point brings a feeling of movement, an opening. Speech and creative self-expression are linked with it as well. It lets a person stay present where they are, even in pain, and express themselves from the core of their own being; the point sits in the fifth energy center. It is for when the person is ready to see but can't: there is no light or fresh air. It enriches communication and gives the tools for helpful expression, blasting through old garbage, habitual patterns and the issues that keep returning.

Worsley

Location: On the front midline below the cricoid cartilage, 1.6 ACI above REN-21.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 3-7 cones

When to Consider
  • When a person lives under a dark cloud that never lifts, as if in a cage, with pain, hunger and frustration
  • When someone is cut off, depressed and imprisoned in darkness
  • When emotions are stuck inside, with difficulty expressing feelings or showing affection
  • When there is no authentic communication within the person or with others
  • When someone arrives utterly spaced out, dazzled by Heaven, and the Window may need closing
  • When a person lives in a self-made prison of addiction and does not want to see, hear or talk
  • When the person can't put their feelings into words, or needs to express the truth
  • When heavenly energies are not accessible and the pollution and rubbish are ready to be cleared
  • When the CF has been prepared enough and the person is ready to see, but the CF's own Windows don't suffice
  • To shift a person's attitude about how they nourish themselves
Notes
  • Window of the Sky point: caress it first with gentle massage
  • Ground a hysterical person with lower points; in a bad trip you might sedate this point
  • Crossing point of the Conception Vessel and the Yin Linking Vessel
  • Greater and faster in effect than the other Windows of the Sky; use it on a Causative Factor that has no Window of its own
  • Don't use it too soon or it can leave someone spaced out; jammed open, the person is dazed, while stuck shut, they struggle to express themselves

From Class

  • Ren-22 & Ren-23 on Yin Wei Mai: Yin Wei rises to Ren-22 and Ren-23 — the power of giving speech to what's been hidden; voicing 'the demons' lets them leave. (Lewis)
  • Ren-22 Tiantu (Heaven's Chimney): Exchange between emotional body and spirit; heaven whispers awakening through it at birth, and the soul exhales through the same gate at death. (Lewis)
  • Ren-22 Tiantu (Heaven's Chimney) — breath practice: Death Canal meditation: rest awareness at Ren-22, narrow the throat for soft audible breath, tongue on palate, long exhalations — 'allow yourself to be breathed'. (Lewis)
  • Ren-22 Tiantu and Du-14 Dazhui — yin/yang pooling at the throat: All yin channels pool at Heaven's Chimney (Ren-22), all yang at the Big Hammer (Du-14); the still point between, mid-throat, is the meditation focus. (Johnson)
  • Ren-22, Ren-23, Du-15 (Window of Sky points): Open communication between heaven and earth; located between heart and brain so what is truly in the heart can come out past our adornments. (Lewis)
  • Ren-22, Ren-23, Du-15 (unspoken words): Ren-22 and Ren-23 release tension at the tongue base; Du-15 Mute Gate helps express what remained unspoken and find closure. (Lewis)
  • Horizontal 'chakra' levels: ankles, knees, hips/groin, Ren-1, Ren-8, Ren-12, Ren-15, Ren-17, Ren-22, Yintang, Du-20: Levels where repression shows as tightness/symptoms; treat with Ren and Du points at that level plus Chong (KI/ST channel) points, and inner/outer bladder line points.
  • Thyroid with Ren/Qiao: Ren-21, Ren-22, ST-9: Ren-21 benefits the throat; Ren-22 treats goiter; ST-9 Renying is key — benefits/disinhibits throat and neck. (Rabinowitz)
  • Windows of Heaven (10 points between chest and head): Ten Windows of Heaven influence autonomic balance and release emotional burdens; needle, or at the bedside use essential oils, magnets or gentle massage. (Lewis)
  • Ren, Du, Wei summary (review): Ren: bonding/imprinting, Ren-21–23 for thyroid; Du: individuation, brain, Du-16–17 HPA axis; Wei: global linking, profound depression/loss of purpose (SJ-5, PC-6). (Rabinowitz)
  • Anointing the Seven Stars of the Great Dipper: Anoint seven levels of the central axis from Ren-1/Du-1 up to Du-20 so the spirits ascend through the crown; front Ren points can substitute for back Du points. (Lewis)
  • Death rattle — Po learning to stop breathing: Rather than medicating the death rattle, reposition, massage the chest, stimulate Ren-22 and support the family; the Po is learning to stop breathing. (Lewis)
  • Yin Wei Mai psychic treatment — forgiving the past: Resolves deepest internal conflict: PC-6 opens the chest, KI-9 witnesses life as a revered guest, SP-15 centers, SP-16 for unresolved heartbreak, LV-14 unbinds the chest, Ren-22/23 tell a new story. (Lewis)
