Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Everything has to come in through this Gate. Being a frontier gate, it needs to move freely: it is the point of entry, and should it close, the Three Heater fails, and with it every Official. As the Metal point it holds the Official's essence, its quality. Use it to bring richer quality to the Fire, and to bring warmth to the rigidity, coldness, numbness and lack of sensitivity that can be a Metal problem within the Fire. Frontier means outside, a barrier or border; there is a sense of moving from the outside into me. This gate lets a person into a place that had been shut and brings ease into a new frontier or territory, so they can find the joy and adventure of life or of a situation. It gives strength, capacity and ease of movement, and the joy and adventure of moving. As the outermost aspect of the Fire element, the Three Heater shapes our social life: the roles we play and much of our personality, and how we connect with the world at a relatively surface level. The Frontier Gate is how we do business with the world, and it must stay open for energy to pass, physically and mentally. This point is like a good rush of air to stoke the Fire.

Worsley

Sends love and joy's radiant energy deep within us with full force.

Location: Ulnar-side nail point, ring finger.
Needle depth: 1 fen
Moxa: 3 cones

When to Consider
  • When there is plenty of surface warmth but no strength or center that lasts
  • When the mind is cold, rigid and starved, unable to take in or value the quality of the ideas coming to it
  • When a person's lack of harmony comes out mentally as coldness and rigidity, with rigidity in speech
  • When the person cannot coordinate things mentally
  • When the spirit is unreceptive to anything new, whether relationships or ideas, and contact with others feels hollow and without warmth
  • When there is inflexibility, inertia of the spirit, or the person has lost the sense of what is enough
  • For someone unwilling to dance, date or join in; shyness, holding back and reserve
  • To help disperse a habit of always pushing one's boundaries, or to help a withdrawn person widen their horizons
  • When the person is cold and inert like metal, letting nothing in or out
  • When someone can't adjust or coordinate to people or surroundings, inside or out
  • For the person who keeps rushing into relationships and then pulling back once they feel exposed, or whose social fire shows as constant talk and chatter
Combinations
  • PC-8 Palace of Weariness with SJ-1: helps heal deep wounds of loneliness, vulnerability and fragility, letting the person go inside and heal so they can move back out into the world
Notes
  • Metal point, Well point and Entry point of the Three Heater; energy begins to flow here from the Small Intestine
  • A point on the nail, very quick acting
  • After Lung and Colon have been treated, it can help with any difficulty in receiving
  • Where PC-9 directs energy inward toward the center, SJ-1 sends energy out toward the outer frontier
