Contraindications

Notes

  • This point is used to promote resuscitation when the person is unconsciousness.
  • This is the first of the thirteen Ghost Points listed by Sun Si-miao for treatment of psychosis and epilepsy.
  • Man lies between Heaven and Earth. This point is considered to establish the connection between the two.

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Middle of Man reaches the Soul of the Soul, the Heart of the Heart itself; it is a very potent point. It lies between the nose, which receives the Qi of Heaven, and the mouth, which receives the flavors of Earth, so it stands for humankind between Heaven and Earth. Here the yang of the Governor Vessel meets the yin of the Conception Vessel, and it restores the connection between yin and yang.

Worsley

Location: On the front midline below the nose, at the centre of the philtrum.
Needle depth: 2 fen
Moxa: 3 cones

When to Consider
  • When a person is not clear, disorganized and not whole in their spirit
  • When there are rapid changes between highs and lows, or between hysteria and tears
  • When there is severe anxiety, or anxiety with depression
  • When there is anxiety with incessant nervous talking
Notes
  • Resuscitation point of the Governor Vessel
  • One of the 13 Ghost points

From Class

  • Du-26 Renzhong: Revives consciousness; empirical point for acute back pain ('use pain to heal pain'). (Alexander)
  • Du-26 Renzhong: Where Yang Ming (stomach, LI) meets Du — clears heat (heat originates in Yang Ming); in face reflexology corresponds to Mingmen; quiets the shen. (Yuen)
  • Du-26, Du-25, PC-6, PC-9 (resuscitation sequence): Deep Du-26 and Du-25 then shallow PC-6 and PC-9 bring Wei qi to the chest and heart; repeat for brain trauma when consciousness doesn't return. (Gioioso)
  • Head stasis: GV-16 + GV-26 needled toward each other; bleed LU-3, LU-5, LU-6: For cerebral swelling/brain bleeds/stroke; LU-3 'window of the sky'; same lung combo for spitting blood. (Gioioso)
  • Jing-wells, Du-26, Ren-24, Windows of Sky (BL-10, SI-16, SJ-16, SI-17): Jing-wells expel wind and revive; Du-26, Ren-24 revive spirit, clear wind and heat; Windows of Sky open orifices — BL-10 frees atlas/axis. (Shea)
  • Sun Simiao ghost points: Du-26, LU-11, SP-1: Du-26, LU-11, SP-1 for acute intense pain incl. back pain — men left first, women right; check the kidney pulse for vitality first. (Alexander)
  • Wang Qingren resuscitation protocol: Du-26, Du-25, PC-6 (shallow), PC-9 (shallow): Brings circulation back into the brain and Wei qi back in after loss of consciousness/brain injury (originally from cardiology). (Gioioso)
  • Camphor, styrax, borneol (sacred aromatics): Placed beneath the nose with the renewal axis to open the sensory portals and reach any remaining consciousness. (Lewis)
  • Renewal axis (after sudden/traumatic departure): Asks the soul 'returning or going on?': ST-25 centers the heaven-earth axis, SP-8 reconnects with earth, SP-21 gathers the person, then Du-26 calls consciousness back. (Lewis)
