Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Abdomen Sorrow takes away and moves the sorrow. It is for a sense of loss, when Earth has stopped doing for us what it should: a terrible, deep sadness, the feeling of not being loved by mother. When the Spleen is exhausted and oppressed it cannot take in and transform, and the person may close in on themselves. It addresses a spiritual emptiness, a sadness like that of someone saying 'I don't want to eat' as an appeal for sympathy and wanting to be understood. Somewhat like Broken Bowl, it concerns loss in the Earth element, the sadness of nothing being there, of loss or departure.

Worsley

Location: On the abdomen on the paramedian nipple line, 4 ACI from the midline and 2½ ACI above the umbilicus level, at a height midway between REN-10 and REN-11.
Needle depth: 7 fen
Moxa: 5-10 cones

When to Consider
  • For a sense of loss, when Earth has stopped doing what it should
  • When there is a terrible deep sadness, as if not loved by mother
  • When there is sadness or lamentation and it feels as if everything is slipping away
  • When the person gets no sense of reward after effort
  • When someone feels weighed down and unable to move toward others
  • To move sorrow held a long time at not having got what was needed
  • To help with letting go of motherhood: abortion, miscarriage, menopause, postpartum depression or hysterectomy
  • For helplessness, hopelessness and malaise, with no harvest, no return and no growth
  • For a deep sense of loss from not being nourished by the mother, or from a lost connection with her; it releases the person when stuck in sorrow

From Class

  • SP-16 Fuai: Yin Wei point where grief, sorrow and disconnection from center can be acknowledged and integrated. (Lewis)
  • SP-16 Fuai (Abdomen Sorrow): On the Yin Wei Mai; helps recognize unresolved past regrets and integrate previously undigested life experience. (Lewis)
  • Ren-12 Zhongwan (Center Cavity): Where excess collects; stimulating it digests worry and overthinking held in the 'gut brain' and releases mental attachments burdening the Spleen. (Lewis)
  • Yin Wei & Yang Wei for diabetes: For diabetes, Yin Wei points KI-9, SP-13, SP-15, SP-16, LV-14 and opening point PC-6; Yang Wei eye points (GB-16, GB-17) for retinopathy, opening point SJ-5. (Rabinowitz)
  • Yin Wei Mai — weaving the inner story: Unintegrated experiences are knots in the Yin Wei Mai's fabric; Yin Wei lets us gather what was left behind, addressing conditioning at odds with the Chong blueprint. (Lewis)
  • Yin Wei Mai psychic treatment — forgiving the past: Resolves deepest internal conflict: PC-6 opens the chest, KI-9 witnesses life as a revered guest, SP-15 centers, SP-16 for unresolved heartbreak, LV-14 unbinds the chest, Ren-22/23 tell a new story. (Lewis)
