Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

For the spirit, Fly and Scatter is a wonderful point: it gathers together a person who is all over the place and brings great clarity on a mental level. Used for its spiritual meaning, it brings peace, harmony and order to parts that are scattered, especially thoughts and feelings, and creates order from chaos. In nature, water takes on precisely the shape of whatever holds it, and in balance the same happens within us; when water has no boundaries, it scatters and flows everywhere, and the mind can "freak out". This point brings clarity and brightness to Water and holds the potential of a runner crouched at the starting line. A balanced Bladder Official spends just the reserve a task needs, no more and no less; this point restores that sense of proportion.

Worsley

Grants us the ability to take flight inwardly, soaring freely and enjoying our inner Heaven. Encouraged to loosen our hold on material life, we open our wings, settle into our inner space and taste the freedom and ease of our essential self.

  • Worsley calls it a Centre of Energy.

Location: On the posterolateral lower leg, between gastrocnemius and soleus, 8 ACI above the level of the lateral malleolus prominence.
Needle depth: 5 fen
Moxa: 3-7 cones

When to Consider
  • To gather a scattered person who cannot come back to earth
  • When even a slight disturbance is seen as a major catastrophe, far out of proportion, and the mind flies off every which way, picturing all kinds of alarming scenarios
  • When a person babbles uncontrollably or, at the other extreme, becomes frozen and rigid
  • When will and determination diminish as the reserves scatter and deplete
  • When fear scatters mind and spirit and responses are jumpy
  • To start the flow, for anyone who needs to fly or to flow
  • When the patient habitually overspends or underspends their reserves for the task at hand
  • When fear is constricted and needs dispersing
Notes
  • Junction point: if the pulses show the Kidney with a relative excess and the Bladder with a relative deficiency, tonifying it draws the excess from Kidney to Bladder and brings the brother and sister Officials together
  • Can act as a "quasi" window
  • Brings energy, vitality and strength to every Official and restores calm, containment and the sense of security
  • Cleanses at a deeper level, especially the mind
