Contraindications

Notes

  • This point is used for mental pain and grief.
  • It is used for people who cannot cope with pain and anguish.

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Wail of Grief is for grief and mental pain, a cry of anguish. It serves a person breaking under the weight of grief or of physical or mental pain, who has hit their limit and finds it is all too much. This point settles everything and brings the person back to themselves. Like a kind of window, it can let out deep pain on any Causative Factor (CF); the diaphragm holds emotion, and this point is the outer Associated Effect Point (AEP) of the diaphragm.

Worsley

Allows us to express ourselves freely in all our emotions.

Location: On the back, 4 ACI from the midline, level with the dip between the T6 and T7 spinous processes.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 5-15 cones

When to Consider
  • For a patient who cannot deal with the pain of loss, who is in the grief with their Qi stuck
  • For someone who needs to acknowledge the grief, which is stuck and not moving
  • When a person is breaking under the weight of their grief and can't face life anymore
  • For people who hold on to inner pain and keep their emotions in
  • When someone close has recently died and part of the person's own image, their sense of self, has died too
  • When someone's worst underlying emotion is grief, even if there has been no loss
  • When a person feels defeated and crushed by life
  • When grief is unstoppable, relentless and ongoing, or is expressed out of proportion
  • When a person cannot grieve and the grief that belongs to a loss is not expressed
  • When emotional pain has torn the person away from their spirit; it supports the spirit and keeps the connection during grief
Combinations
  • UB-13 Lungs Correspondence then UB-45: powerful for a Metal CF
  • LI-4 Joining of the Valleys and LU-8 Meridian Gutter after UB-45: on a Metal CF, a clearing out of the gutter and of held emotional pain
Notes
  • Outer Bladder line point
  • Often used after the upper Kidney points
  • Help them go to that place so they can express it, wail it; sit with someone in their grief and ask about someone lost, and you'll be amazed at what can open up
  • Moxa and tonify; people can relax, drop and breathe, and feel that something has lifted off

From Class

  • BL-45 Yixi for shingles: Outer bladder point just below the heart-shu level ('wail of grief') is his main shingles point, with draining Aggressive Energy — heat in blood as unfulfilled desire.
