Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Golden Gate is the door under the Emperor's control; all that is golden is the Emperor's, and here we enter a land of plenty. Jin means metal or gold and Men means gate or door, and gold is a Taoist symbol of incorruptibility, purity, illumination and wisdom. There needs to be enough water to lubricate transitions; it needs to be flowing when people go through things. Water that has lost its purity and quality can no longer refresh the mind, and if the water seems dirty, like a muddy river, this point creates a kind of lightness.

Worsley

Summons us into the precious kingdom within, a glistening royal treasury where sublime essences of vitality, splendor and abundance are collected and stored. Whenever on our journey we thirst to be reminded of our life's purpose, this point leads us deep inside for a long glimpse of the Almighty.

Location: On the outer edge of the foot, immediately proximal to the tuberosity of the 5th metatarsal.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 3-5 cones

When to Consider
  • When water is sluggish or stagnant, or a torrent
  • When fear produces stillness or movement
  • For anxiety about not having enough; it gives access to an abundance of energy
  • When water seems dirty and muddy and the mind needs refreshing
  • When a person has some reserves built up and now needs to step into their own strength and find a way into their own power
  • When transitions need lubricating
Notes
  • Accumulation (Xi Cleft) point of the Bladder; a center of energy
  • Can tonify and invigorate a Bladder Causative Factor (CF) who has become sluggish, stagnant or erratic
  • A gate: be sure it is needed; you can open or close it. Powerful and not very stable, it can give big quality changes
  • Gold is almost purely Yang in nature
  • Not used often enough

  • Xi-cleft points for acute pain at end of life: Start locally with ashi points, find the channel, then use its xi-cleft point for acute pain; non-acupuncturists can anoint these points with the essential oils. (Lewis)
