Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Upper Star carries the yang of the Governor Vessel high on the head, like a star in the heavens, and brightens the eyes; the eyes' brightness mirrors the spirit. Being among the 13 Ghost points, it helps calm and soothe an agitated spirit. It is a point for spiritual brightness.

Worsley

Location: On the midline of the head, 11 ACI above DU-15.
Needle depth: 2 fen
Moxa: 5 cones

When to Consider
  • When the spirit is agitated
  • When there is worry, fearful anxiety, or obsessive thinking by day and by night
Notes
  • One of the 13 Ghost points
  • The name points indirectly to the nose, the opening of the Lungs, which takes in the cosmic Qi of the air; the cosmos is where the stars live
  • In Qi Gong terms DU-20 is the energy center of the crown, and Yin Tang that of the brow. DU-20 stands for a steady consciousness, with the Yang neither excessive nor lacking, while Yin Tang stands for calm, clear perception; Upper Star and Spirit Hall sit between the two in function
