Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Posterior Summit brings calm and unity to the mind and spirit. This is the summit for when everything has already blown up, when the person feels under huge pressure inside and cannot take any more strain. This yang summit eases the strain so the Officials can stop struggling and settle into a more harmonious way of being. Imagine leading the Officials up to the heavenly masters, the elders and ancestors who have heard it all before: like pouring oil on troubled water, they let each Official air its grievances and share their teachings, then calm things down so everyone goes home relaxed. It calls a summit meeting, gathering the wisdom of all the elders, the wise, the leaders and rulers, and the ancestors, getting above the situation for a view from on high.

Worsley
  • Worsley counts it among the points of the Sea of Bone Marrow.

Location: 5½ ACI above DU-15, on the midline of the head.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 7 cones

When to Consider
  • When everything has blown up
  • When there is intense anxiety and the person feels they cannot bear any more strain
  • When there is agitation or hysterical behavior
  • When there is deep depression
  • When someone is in their head, not their body, thinking too much
  • When there is total chaos, even with pulses at minus one or minus two; chaos is not the same as hyper pulses, and it is usually sedated
Combinations
  • DU-20 One Hundred Meetings with DU-19: a combination for deep depression; also enhances DU-20 to bring all the Officials together
  • REN-15 Dove Tail with DU-19: enhances the calming effect
  • DU-20 One Hundred Meetings with DU-19: like pouring oil on troubled water, the two best points for restoring order in chaos; use DU-19 when a crisis is imminent and DU-20 after it has struck and the person is in fragments, and the pair together to calm a manic person (Secondary source)
Notes
  • When doing combinations, leave the needles in
  • The body's most Yang pole
  • Sometimes tonified after a Husband-Wife treatment, or after much work to bring things together
  • Usually used with DU-20, and sedated almost every time

From Class

  • Wind-draining points: Du-16, Du-19, Du-20, GB-37, GB-20, GB-21: Draining liver wind too fast causes dizziness (re-triggering content); marijuana disinhibits the liver too quickly (red eyes, dry mouth, then paranoia).
  • Postnatal depression — Heart-Blood deficiency points: HT-5, HT-7, Ren-14, Ren-15, BL-15, LV-8, Du-20, Ren-4, ST-36, SP-6, Du-19, PC-6; reinforcing (Du-19 even); moxa applicable. (Maciocia)
