Notes

  • This is a key point for eye problems.
  • This point stimulates the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland.
  • This point brings stability.
  • This is a good point for those who have had an excessive intake of drugs.
  • This point eliminates floaters.
  • Gallbladder Luo vessel: Branches off the primary channel at GB-37. Links with the LIV channel. Runs down and spreads over the dorsum of the foot. Symptoms of the Gallbladder Luo: Cold feet, paralysis of the lower limbs and inability to stand upright, (fainting).
  • Guang Ming shares the character Ming (bright) with Jing Ming (UB-1) and with the eye herbs Shi Jue Ming and Jue Ming Zi.
  • GB-37 vs GB-20 for the eyes: GB-37 is likened to Gou Qi Zi, GB-20 to Ju Hua.

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

The Gallbladder deals with the pure substance of bile; no other Official deals with pure energy, and if it is impure, treat here first. On a mental level it brings clarity. Decisions and judgments have to be made clearly, and this point is about seeing the fruits and rewards that come from making them; it gives a clear, all-encompassing vision. It brings crystal clarity and brightness, clearing the cobwebs: clarity suddenly rushing into body, mind and spirit and a clear view of what lies ahead, like bursting from the husk of a seed into the light. It brings the courage, brightness and clarity to see things through the problems and hurdles, to stay flexible, and to see the hidden meanings that had seemed impossible to decipher.

Worsley

Location: On the outer lower leg, 5 ACI above the lateral malleolus prominence; lying face up with the knee half bent, it is found in front of the fibula's edge.
Needle depth: 6 fen
Moxa: 7 cones

When to Consider
  • When the person is in a confused place
  • When there is indecision and a lack of mental or spiritual vision
  • When decisions and plans are twisted and imagination is poisoned
  • When there is toxicity of body, mind and spirit, including after heavy use of drugs or medication
  • When a person is easily irritable and angry
  • When a person has a plan but is unclear about the first step; it sharpens focus
  • When the plan and its execution don't match; it brings the two Wood Officials together
  • When a person says, "I can't tell why I keep doing that"
  • When mind and feelings send conflicting messages that unsettle the Gallbladder
  • For despair and threatened or attempted suicide
Notes
  • Junction (Luo) point with the Liver
  • Particularly good for the mental level, and also has Window-type properties
  • The Liver and Gallbladder work more like one Official than any other meridian pair. Where drug use is involved, treat both

From Class

  • SI-7, SJ-5, SJ-6, ST-40, Ren-15, BL-58, LI-6, GB-37, LV-5, Du-1 (luo complements): Luo complements: SI-7 endocarditis heat; SJ-6 toxic heat; SJ-5 wind-damp bi; BL-58 heart-attack prodrome; LI-6 edema; ST-40/Ren-15 phlegm; GB-37; LV-5, Du-1 rectification. (Gioioso)
  • BL-1 Jingming (Brightness of the Eyes): Opens the capacity to see clearly outwardly and inwardly; treatment becomes an act of remembering that the light was never absent. (Lewis)
  • PC-6 / HT-5 + GB-37 / LU-7 (circulation protocols): Systemic circulation: open with PC-6, close with GB-37; peripheral circulation: open with HT-5, close with LU-7; then bleed varicosities on yang luo (SI-7, LI-6, SJ-5). (Gioioso)
  • GB-37 Guangming: Luo point that addresses the eyes (floaters). (Yuen)
  • GB-37 Guangming (Bright Light): Associated with illumination; guides one through periods of uncertainty, transition and rebirth. Effective treatment requires a shift of consciousness, not just mechanical qi adjustment. (Lewis)
  • LV-1 moxa & Ren-15 (wind-stroke, drooling): Stroke/coma with drooling: moxa LV-1 ('returning the light') with Ren-15 and bleeding technique to restore consciousness and resuscitate yang. (Gioioso)
  • Wind-draining points: Du-16, Du-19, Du-20, GB-37, GB-20, GB-21: Draining liver wind too fast causes dizziness (re-triggering content); marijuana disinhibits the liver too quickly (red eyes, dry mouth, then paranoia).
  • Luo oils: myrrh/frankincense for fullness, parsley for emptiness: For latency/empty luo combine parsley with hyssop and apply to LU-9, BL-13, GB-37, Ren-15, SP-21; luo channels give an avenue to reduce in cancer. (Yuen)
