Notes

  • This is the single most important point on the Lung channel to tonify Lung Qi and Yin.
  • This point is used for long-term problems.
  • This point is used for all disorders of Qi.
  • This is a first aid point for asphyxia, collapse, poisoning and concussion.
  • This point is good when the pulses are chaotic or not rhythmical or regular.
  • It has a tremendous effect on the Blood.
  • As the Influential point of the Vessels, LU-9 also benefits the Heart, so it treats both Lung and Heart disorders, including an irregular pulse.
  • Sheng Mai San acts much like LU-9, since both target the Lungs and Heart.
  • LU-9 is for Interior Lung Deficiency and Phlegm and suits chronic cases, compared with LU-7 for acute Exterior Wind.
  • Main Lung points at a glance: LU-5 for Phlegm-Heat, LU-7 for Exterior Wind, LU-9 for Lung Deficiency, LU-10 for Lung Heat.

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

This point goes very deep: think of the depths of life, and this is where you land. We are going back to the source of life; the deepest level of our being holds the power of sustaining life. It penetrates to the deepest level, the Spirit, through the connection with the breath of life, and it unites the Mother and Father aspects. Lung and Spirit share an amazing connection; this is a soul door. It is the Mother feeding her child, and it calls in both Mother and Father, Earth and Metal, above all where an abyss has opened between them.

Worsley
  • Worsley gives it as a First Aid point for shock, poison, insensibility, food poisoning, concussion, collapse and asphyxia.

Location: On the wrist flexure crease, over the radial artery, in the gap between the scaphoid and the radius.
Needle depth: 2 fen
Moxa: 3 cones

When to Consider
  • When a person has difficulty seeing the light of God or inspiration, the light at the tunnel's end, the God or Goddess inside us, the Self
  • When a person cannot connect with God; it opens the door to connection, so they can feel the breath
  • When a person is fanatic in spiritual searching, going from guru to guru, with an intense need to connect with God
  • When a person needs to let go of the old to make space for the new, and to trust
  • When a person feels as if they are cracking up; mental chaos and instability are replaced with Love
  • When a person's spirit is really going under: "My life's going to hell"
  • When there is a great sense of emptiness, or the person seems lost in an abyss and needs to find their footing
  • When the person looks like a corpse, as if they're not there and their spirit isn't present; it is a real wake-up for them
  • For worry and desperation, plunging deep into the most intimate levels of the person
  • For the depths of loneliness: use it very carefully, and only when invited
  • For someone sunk in deep despair and depression; it lifts them into the light
Notes
  • Earth point, Tonification point, Source point. The Source point for the Lung on Metal; it holds a great quality
  • Great revival point: when there is chaos, the pulses lack rhythm or regularity, and a clear diagnosis is impossible, use it before any other treatment to get a better indication of what is happening
  • Revives all the Officials. When every pulse is low, this brings up the Heavenly Qi and everything comes up again. You'll know when to use it
  • With a Metal Causative Factor (CF), the person can look as if they're not there; they're somewhere else
  • Connects to quality, purity and the essence of the heavenly Father
  • As the meeting point of the vessels it acts on the blood, and blood unites body and spirit: Earth supports it, while the Metal in the blood affects how spirit and life force move in it

From Class

  • LU-7 Lieque: Lung 7 more effective than LU-9 for weak hemoglobin; with KI-3 and SP-3 for the organs involved. (Yuen)
  • LU-9 Taiyuan (pulse mapping): Cun is at LU-9; per Jeffrey Yuen, locate guan from the ulnar styloid, then space chi the same distance, measured to the patient's body. (Peck)
  • LU-9 Taiyuan — aconite-slice moxa: Place an aconite (Fu Zi) slice over LU-9, the Lung source point, and burn moxa cones on it to warm and expel phlegm. (Yuen)
  • Buddha's / golden triangle: LU-9, HT-7, PC-6: Intense combination: LU-9 (source, influential point of vessels), HT-7 (source), PC-6; can be done one-sided. (Shea)
  • Treat the Pericardium whenever phlegm affects the Lungs: If phlegm obstructs the Lungs use the Lung channel (aconite moxa on LU-9); treat the Pericardium regardless as prevention, since Lung involvement affects the Heart. (Yuen)
  • Hyssop (linalool chemotype): Oil that resonates with LU-9 Taiyuan; apply a drop on the point. (Yuen)
  • Lung cancer clearing blend (myrrh, peppermint, rosemary, German chamomile, hyssop linalool): Clearing strategy ~60% for heat/fire toxins: myrrh clears lung/stomach heat and acts on luo, hyssop linalool tonifies, rosemary directs to brain/spine; hyssop on LU-9 tonifies lung qi. (Yuen)
