Notes

  • The main function of this point is to invigorates and regulate the circulation of Qi and Blood in the upper limb.
  • It is an important and widely used point for all Large Intestine channel problems.
  • This point stimulates leukocyte production.
  • This is a good point for intellectual exhaustion.
  • This point lowers nervous excitement and stimulates Blood flow to the seat of illness.
  • LI-10 (Arm Three Miles) with ST-36 (Foot Three Miles) is a powerful Qi and Blood tonic: both are Yang Ming points, rich in Qi and Blood, and sit at the elbow and knee, where they tonify and balance.

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Arm Three Miles is an intellectual exhaustion point. It lies on the Bright Yang, the Colon and Stomach pairing so abundant in Qi and Blood, and some think of it as the ST-36 of the arm, tonifying and strengthening the Large Intestine in body, mind and spirit. It moves sluggish Qi when too much study or an obsession has overloaded the mind.

Worsley
  • Not to be needled from the 9th month of pregnancy onward

Location: On the posteroradial forearm, 10 ACI above the wrist crease. With the palm side of the forearm laid across the chest, it lies on the radial edge of extensor digitorum.
Needle depth: 5 fen
Moxa: 5-10 cones

When to Consider
  • When there is intellectual exhaustion
  • When excessive study or obsession has overloaded the mind and ideas are no longer processed rhythmically
  • When someone has become pedantic and fatigued from focusing too narrowly on one area
  • When the Large Intestine needs tonifying and strengthening in body, mind and spirit
  • When the person needs stamina, endurance and strength to keep on through the final stretch of the journey
Notes
  • Some think of it as the ST-36 of the arm
  • Do not use during the final two months of pregnancy
