Notes

  • This is the best point for chronic constipation.
  • This point treats internal devils.
  • It is excellent for providing stability in epilepsy, depression and insanity.
  • This point brings stability to the Large Intestine and is especially good for alternating diarrhea and constipation.
  • This point clears out accumulated mental rubbish causing a person's thinking to be muddled.
  • This is an antibiotic point. It can be used before surgeries to decrease the likelihood of post-op infection.
  • Although this point does have some actions on the Large Intestine, for disorders of the Large Intestine, the lower he-Sea point of the Large Intestine, ST-37 Shangjuxu is preferred.
  • This point is often in Liver Fire patterns with hypertension.
  • Known as the "fire engine," LI-11 clears every kind of Heat: Wind-Heat, Blood-Heat, Damp-Heat, Toxic Heat and Organ Heat (Liver, Heart, Stomach, Lung, Large Intestine). Typical signs are a red tongue with yellow coating and a rapid pulse.

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Crooked Pond is the Earth point and Tonification point on the Colon, and it brings the earth into the Metal. It is for Metal that requires the stabilizing force of Mother Earth, where there is no nurturance for the Metal. It grounds a Metal that is too far up in the clouds, restores the mother-child link and brings a sense of harvest. It treats internal devils and brings stability in depression, epilepsy and insanity. The Earth within gives stability while a person is in the process of letting go.

Worsley

Location: On the posteroradial forearm. With the palm side of the forearm laid across the chest, it is found between the humerus's lateral epicondyle and the outer end of the elbow crease.
Needle depth: 5-8 fen
Moxa: 5-10 cones

When to Consider
  • When Metal lacks nurturance and needs the stabilizing force of Mother Earth
  • When there are dreams of uncultivated fields or empty food places
  • When there is no sense of harvest and someone feels there is never enough for them
  • When a person feels deprived and hoards things, food, books or memories, to hide a feeling of lost value
  • When grief or disappointment has left someone alienated and defensively isolated
  • When stability is needed in depression or insanity
  • For inner devils: when rubbish has built up and the person is muddled
Notes
  • Earth point, Tonification point and Large Intestine Sea point
  • One of the Ghost points
  • Works more on the physical level than the spiritual, with a generalized effect; good to moxa and gives big pulse changes
  • Has first aid uses and does not have to be used only on a Metal Causative Factor (CF)
  • Used mostly as the Tonification point, often with LU-9

From Class

  • LI-11 local / LI-1 distal (tennis elbow): Local LI-11, distal jing-well LI-1; needling the jing-well challenges the nociceptor response and gives inflammation an exit. (Alexander)
  • LI-11, LI-1, LI-15, LI-20 (channel opening): Define the area of contention as root, then open the channel both ways — LI-11 to LI-1 and up to LI-15, exit LI-20 (Tom Bisio's 'lock and key'). (Alexander)
  • LI-11, SJ-5, ST-40 to clear heat: Clears heat in Yangming and Shaoyang via the primary channels. (Rabinowitz)
  • Clearing fire toxins: BL-11, SP-10, BL-17, KI-9, PC-3, LI-11: Clear fire toxins with BL-11, SP-10, BL-17; KI-9 prevents maternal toxin transmission; PC-3 clears all three levels; LI-11, SP-10 for autoimmune reactivity. (Lewis)
  • Month 9 Shen/Po points: HT-4, HT-7, LU-3, LU-7, BL-42; avoid LI-11: Calm the spirit and Po; avoid LI-11 this month. (Lewis)
  • Running piglet/vascular stress: SP-4 + PC-6; bowels: ST-36, ST-37, ST-39, LI-11: Anxiety/panic may mean vascular stress in the child — open Chong with SP-4 + PC-6; moxa chest for reflux; ST-36, ST-37, ST-39, LI-11 disinhibit the bowels. (Lewis)
  • 13 Ghost Points as four trinities (at/after death): Four trinities moxa'd or touched after death to free what is bound: Du-20, LU-11, SP-1; PC-7, BL-62, Du-16; ST-6, Ren-24, PC-8; Du-23, Ren-1, LI-11; plus Yintang. (Lewis)
  • Placental issues & preeclampsia: Abruption: nourish yin/blood, subdue Liver wind (Gou Teng, Mai Men Dong); accreta = blood stasis; preeclampsia: refer for bloodwork, Du-16, GB-20, ST-40, BL-62, LI-11. (Lewis)
