Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

This point, and all the Gallbladder head points, work on the spirit level. It is the very ground and foundation of the Shen, with an outgoing, direct quality. When the spirit, a person's root, is weak it is hard to keep a steady, conscious path through life. The Gallbladder's direction must be rooted in essence; without that, courage turns into fear and anger directed inward, and the spirit is eaten away by suspicion and jealousy. It keeps a person steady through change, reaching inside to stabilize them. It roots them so decisions can be made, drawing the spirit down to a place from which the next step can be seen. It suits a Wood CF who must be rooted before they can reach skyward, standing tall and straight and taking in Heaven's clear light. The Wood Officials are like a tree: this point on the head corresponds to the highest view from the topmost branches, and it joins that higher perspective with the basic vision held in the roots.

Worsley

Location: On the head, ½ ACI inside the natural hairline, on a vertical line rising above the outer corner (lateral canthus) of the eye.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 7 cones

When to Consider
  • When the spirit is unrooted
  • When there was fright in childhood
  • When there is jealousy, suspicion, fear or obsessive thought
  • When a person feels constantly under threat and cannot focus on plans or the future
  • When there is florid behavior or hallucinations
  • When the sense of self is easily knocked off course by life's difficulties
Combinations
  • REN-4 First Gate with GB-13: to gather essence and root the spirit
  • DU-24 Spirit Hall with GB-13: for intense fears and anxiety
Notes
  • One of the key spirit points of the Gallbladder
  • The name reflects the saying that to treat the spirit is to treat the root, the source
