Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Meeting of Yin is the Entry point of the Conception Vessel, on the center of the perineum, where Ren, Du and Chong begin together. By its name, it holds the potent energy of the yin; death or illness depletes the yin, and this point charges it. It is for someone who is spiritually drowning, a point that resurrects the spirit and brings life where death has been. It gives the spirit a house and keeps us anchored should the plug come out; the Conception Vessel will hold it in. As the beginning of all Yin energy and its source in a human being, it stabilizes, holds and absorbs when essence is too scant to sustain life and there is no foundation, letting a person settle into their own center of gravity. It feeds the sea of Yin, so the oceans in turn can feed the rivers. Meeting of Yin and DU-20, the gathering point of Yang, form the central axis of Heaven and Earth within us; treated together they can help restore the balance of primordial Yin and Yang and open a reserve of that energy. Its other name, Metal Gate, recalls the golden gate of the Queen Mother's kingdom: in myth the first brother and sister rode the crest of the flood through it to bring humankind back to life, and this point's key role is reviving after drowning. The Conception Vessel begins in the uterus, and this gate is a passage into and out of the womb of the Dao.

Worsley
  • Worsley gives it as a First Aid point for resuscitation and drowning.

Location: At the centre of the perineum.
Needle depth: 10 fen
Moxa: No moxa

When to Consider
  • When someone is spiritually drowning, or spiritually depressed
  • When nothing else you do will make a difference
  • When the panic is more outward, as if the person is frantically struggling to stay afloat with their head above the waves
  • When someone is depleted, or drowning both mentally and physically
  • When the spirit is desperate, suffocating and losing control
  • When the person never takes on the responsibility of being here, in life, to bring them back to Earth
  • When a block has been created after giving birth
  • As a last resort for someone in deep crisis, before institutionalization: complete withdrawal, catatonia or suicidal states
  • When a person cannot relate to society
  • For women who say they 'never got over' childbirth and remain worn out by a long labor
  • When a person is so depressed they disconnect, withdraw and can't communicate
  • For the separation of Yin and Yang, when the pulses on both hands have collapsed and the last Yang floats to the surface with no depth beneath; the Yin of the whole being must be tonified to root the Yang
  • For survivors of sexual abuse
Combinations
  • KI-24 Spirit Burial Ground with REN-1: first use KI-24, then go to REN-1 when the spirit is actually overcome; together when the person is desperate and liable to sink again
  • DU-1 Long Strength with REN-1: connects the extreme yin and the extreme yang
Notes
  • Entry point and General Junction point; reunion point for all the yin meridians
  • If they need it, they really need it; if this point were on the hand, we'd be doing it a lot
  • Used only when every Official needs support
  • A lot about nourishment and being present in life; calms the spirit
  • Not quite as powerful as KI-24 for spiritual resurrection
  • Called the master point of the whole body; affects the Yin-Yang balance. Like SP-21, a general junction point affecting all junction points; use it after SP-21

From Class

  • Horizontal 'chakra' levels: ankles, knees, hips/groin, Ren-1, Ren-8, Ren-12, Ren-15, Ren-17, Ren-22, Yintang, Du-20: Levels where repression shows as tightness/symptoms; treat with Ren and Du points at that level plus Chong (KI/ST channel) points, and inner/outer bladder line points.
  • Original Chong / Taiji pole (Du-20 to Ren-1): The Daoist inner vertical axis from Du-20 to Ren-1 is the original Chong, where the mandate of heaven is communicated and Yi, Zhi and Shen align. (Lewis)
  • Double-terminated quartz image in the central channel: Visualize the fused three dantians as a double-terminated quartz from Huiyin to Baihui, linking Soul Star–Pole Star and Earth Star. (Johnson)
  • 13 Ghost Points as four trinities (at/after death): Four trinities moxa'd or touched after death to free what is bound: Du-20, LU-11, SP-1; PC-7, BL-62, Du-16; ST-6, Ren-24, PC-8; Du-23, Ren-1, LI-11; plus Yintang. (Lewis)
  • Anointing the Seven Stars of the Great Dipper: Anoint seven levels of the central axis from Ren-1/Du-1 up to Du-20 so the spirits ascend through the crown; front Ren points can substitute for back Du points. (Lewis)
  • Lower dantian 'inner lift' breathing (Ming Men practice): Inhale while subtly lifting the pelvic floor and drawing in the lower abdomen so the 'waters of life' rise to nourish Ming Men fire; exhale softening without collapsing. (Lewis)
  • Upper and lower three: Upper dantian's three (two eyes and third eye) point to heaven like fire; navel, Mingmen and perineum point to earth like water — alchemy mixes them. (Johnson)
