Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Retired White is translated as Hidden White. Yin is hidden, streamed, back behind something, subtle; Bai is luminous and clear, something seen in the twilight of the day, the white and the luminosity as the sun goes over the mountains. On Earth, this is a name that has to do with Metal: hidden, not easily seen, but clear, a hidden clarity. The point gives the ability to have a clear mind, like the light in the kitchen of a grandmother, and white also represents the elders and respect for the more mature side of life. It is the Wood point, and it cements the Wood in the Earth; as Metal, it lets the Earth's breaths ascend to the Lungs, and this matters for bringing Heaven and Earth into harmony. It anchors a person to the ground the way roots anchor a tree and brings clarity of thought, so they can find new roots in the soil and new growth. It is the Yang within the Yin.

Worsley
  • Not to be needled from the 1st month of pregnancy onward

Location: At the nail point on the inner (medial) side of the big toe.
Needle depth: 1 fen
Moxa: No moxa

When to Consider
  • When there is mental agitation from overthinking and the thoughts are so many that they need clarity
  • When Wood is clogging up the Earth, like a plant that has grown too big for its pot
  • When there is severe mental imbalance and the mind is in a prison
  • When the person is sorrowful and sleep is disturbed, especially in an Earth Causative Factor (CF)
  • When worry, brooding or depression has left the mind and spirit stagnant
  • When the person stares vacantly into space, or dreams of a weight pressing down on them
  • When concentration needs to be increased (tonify)
  • When a person sees no way out and feels stuck and choked
  • For temper tantrums and cantankerous little children
  • To aid study and recall
Combinations
  • LU-11 Little Merchant with SP-1: small moxa cones alternated between the two points for the person who stares vacantly into space
Notes
  • Wood point and Entry point of the Spleen: an important transfer point from Wood
  • One of the Ghost points
  • The name sounds like a Metal point, but it is a Wood point
  • Stabilizes the spirit
  • Can be used as a first aid point for slow bleeding, not only on an Earth CF
  • Known as a point of cerebral calm, equilibrium and joy
  • With deficient Wood it steadies the nerves and clears the thinking
