Notes

  • This is a main point to treat insomnia.
  • This point is able to reduce excess Fire from the Pericardium.
  • It is used whenever Heat rises to disturb the Shen.
  • This is the principle point for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome.
  • This a specific point to calm sexual tension.
  • This point clears sore spots on the chest from emotional blockages.
  • It is generally used as a reducing point.
  • PC-7 vs HT-7: PC-7 calms the Shen more forcefully and anchors it, like Long Gu and Mu Li; HT-7 calms the Shen more gently, like Suan Zao Ren and Bai Zi Ren.
  • PC-7 vs HT-7: in Warm febrile disease, PC-7 is the point of choice.

Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

A great, steady mound of Fire, a very Yin part of Fire. A mound is a little hill: it is a difficult journey and takes effort to get to the top, but when we get there we can see everything, like looking down from the top of a mountain, beauty both geographical and spiritual, seeing the whole picture. Da Ling is where the emperors were buried, a great reserve we can call on. It grounds Fire; it nurtures and calms, links us to our forebears or the source of energy, and gives a strong feeling of security. With this point the Official is bathed in the calmness, serenity and stability of Earth. It lets a person rise above hurt and pain while nourishing them, so a new perspective can come, and it picks up a lack of joy and lets it sit above the pain. It brings clarity, calm, serenity and grounding: a greater, higher vision with the richness and solidity of Earth. The best defense, the way to disarm someone, is with love; a happy and peaceful spirit keeps negativity away, as the finest silk floating in water escapes the sharpest sword.

Worsley

Offers great perspective, raising us into joyful living and heartfelt gratitude.

  • Every Yin meridian's Source point carries some greatness. Since any threat to Fire is in the end a threat to Earth, this point supports the Earth until the Fire comes back into balance, settling agitation, bringing calm and controlling the Fire; it grounds a patient's weak nerves on the Great Mound.

Location: At the centre of the wrist flexure crease, between the flexor carpi radialis and palmaris longus tendons.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: No moxa

When to Consider
  • If the person's heart is fluttering open and closing: it gives a sense of solidity and strength for being able to protect the Heart
  • To bring a sense of knowing what they need
  • For heart protection: they do not know when to be vulnerable or when not to; intimacy, opening and closing, letting in and keeping out
  • If someone is in an abusive relationship, it helps them see clearly from a new point
  • As a mound from which a confused person can see clearly
  • When a person shows excess Fire, particularly as instability, weak nerves or too much laughter; it quells insecurity and nervousness
  • For symptoms that will not settle: hot, cold, then hot once more
  • For the emotional aftermath when a relationship breaks up
  • As a place to gain perspective on past relationships: to see whether the Heart needs protecting, and whether sorting out a relationship is appropriate
  • For shyness; it brings the chest forward
  • When there are hidden agendas, panic or insecurity, and the person can't share, give or take warmth
  • To ground and nourish a scattered Heart
  • To sedate people in shock
Notes
  • Earth point, Source point and Sedation point of the Pericardium
  • Forbidden for needle or moxa until very experienced (moxa is too heat generating); a safeguard when you are beginning, not permanently forbidden
  • One of the Ghost points
  • The Heart Protector looks to see what is going on in the kingdom, so it can protect the Heart
  • Every Yin meridian Source point carries greatness or supremacy in their names: great, greater, supreme, very great
  • Very stimulating; it can give the Heart Protector a strong enough jolt to raise the dead
