Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Like the corner shop we visit when necessities run out: it provides enough Qi to get by and offers temporary support. Because you can meet some of the basic needs of body, mind and spirit, it calms a patient tremendously. Wood sedates Metal; this point brings growth, flexibility and healthy anger. It links Wood with Metal and brings malleability, so it shapes how well a Metal CF grows, decides and plans. The corner store has a little of everything: the person can pick up from outside what they need to add to their quality.

Worsley
  • Worsley gives it among his first aid points, for sunstroke, insensibility and convulsions.
  • Not to be needled from the 7th month of pregnancy onward

Location: At the nail point on the radial side of the thumb.
Needle depth: 1 fen
Moxa: No moxa

When to Consider
  • When a person is out of everything in their own house and needs to go and get everything they need
  • When a person hasn't been doing basic internal maintenance and has forgotten the basics of household needs
  • When a person can't seem to get it together to have their basic needs met, in the world or internally, and is not able to take care of themselves in the most basic of ways
  • When the person gets cold, cynical and cutting, and complains that they don't have the basics in their house
  • To see people through a critical stage, a period of crisis
  • For relief from tension and worries
  • When grief and anger are present at the same time
Notes
  • Wood point
  • Often used early in treatment
  • A question to sit with: how would excess heat show itself in Metal? Perhaps as manic Fire, so much Fire that the person cannot settle into their Metal at all, with plenty of celebration and little of the sacred
