Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Wrist Bone is a beautiful point and a safe one to use. The wrist is highly flexible, so we can both give out and take in, and that is creative. The point concerns our contact with the world outside: through it we take in, nurture, stay flexible and separate. If it is stuck, reaching out and touching become impossible. It lends the Small Intestine the structure and stability it needs to reach out, and helps relationships. As the Source point, it connects to Original Qi and brings calm and stability. It holds the essence of sorting on every level: without sorting there is congestion, with things kept inside that ought to be released. A healthy wrist reaches every way and receives from every side. The bone in the name points to structure: the Small Intestine needs some kind of framework to do its work, and this point helps it find that.

Worsley

Location: On the ulnar border of the hand, in the dip separating the triquetral bone from the base of the 5th metacarpal.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 3-7 cones

When to Consider
  • When the person can't reach out or touch
  • When the Small Intestine needs to adjust, be flexible and turn its hand to anything
  • When relationships need help, for example focus drops away suddenly or a remark comes out with a sting in the tail
  • When the person is either obsessed with detail or can never settle on a choice
  • When the spirit needs stability and calm
  • When the eyes, as well as the hands, seem stuck, and the capacity to see and communicate is affected
Combinations
  • LI-4 Joining of the Valleys with SI-4: often paired to throw off waste and help the Small Intestine adjust and stay flexible
Notes
  • Source point of the Small Intestine; a general treatment point that does a lot on Heart and Small Intestine Causative Factors (CFs) and affects the entire meridian
  • Useful in chronic illness
