Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Forward Valley shows what is happening with Water within the Fire: the reserves, the deep underground energies, the unseen and the subconscious. It roots the person in their deep inner spirit and allows the Water element within to come forward in the Fire: will, ambition, self-identity, the drive to move forward in life. The valley is a notch for gathering energy; if the well is deep enough, the person can move forward, and the self-identity is deep inside. It carries Water's quality to the Small Intestine, cleansing and fluidity, since transformations and separations are made difficult without fluidity. Water sets a workable pace for sorting when much is going on, and gives the perseverance to keep going when there is a great deal to sort. It helps a person move out of confusion into action, sifting through all the pieces to find the purest, like switching on a light bulb amid the dark, and it washes away the filth.

Worsley

Location: On the ulnar border of the hand, a little distal to where the little finger's proximal phalanx begins (its base).
Needle depth: 1 fen
Moxa: 3-7 cones

When to Consider
  • When there is fear connected with the unknown and with transformation
  • When there is timidity about changing into the unknown, or fear around letting go
  • When the Official is waterlogged and the Fire has nearly gone out
  • When confusion has turned frightening and it takes courage to sort one's life out
  • When there is a lack of movement and the person needs drive to move forward
  • When the difficulty shows itself as low self-esteem
  • When fear is smothering the Small Intestine
  • When there is too little Water and heat builds up in the Fire
Notes
  • Water point of the Small Intestine
  • Seldom used as a spirit point
