Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Rushing Yang is the Source point and carries the essence of comfort for the meridian, and it carries the strength. If a person is in constant worry, it gives them a sense of stability and comfort, like a rushing river; worry has energy to it. Giving a powerful boost, like a shot in the arm, it is especially good for mental instability. Reconnecting with the Source helps a person stop trying to control everything out of anxiety and trust enough to truly receive. It is very grounding, pinning a person to the ground. A thoroughfare, a busy place of commerce and exchange with things coming and going, it lets the person join in.

Worsley

Location: On the top of the foot, in the hollow where the navicular meets the intermediate and lateral cuneiform bones.
Needle depth: 3 fen
Moxa: 3-5 cones

When to Consider
  • When a person is in constant worry and needs stability and comfort
  • When there is instability on a mental level
  • When yang is rushing out of control: the person sings loudly, throws clothes off, jumps on tables and generally acts crazy
  • When people walk aimlessly
  • When ideas are half-baked, or every impulse is thought about so much that it never takes shape
  • When worry or overthinking needs to be rooted back in a stable place
  • For those who seek attention and warmth desperately, unstable and ungrounded, exhibitionists among them
  • For circular thinking when nothing ever gets completed
Combinations
  • SJ-4 with ST-42: for a harmonizing effect
  • LI-4 Joining of the Valleys with ST-42: calming for chronic restlessness, whether of mind or body
  • SP-1 Retired White with ST-42, Stomach to Spleen Entry/Exit: unwillingness to accept anything offered, a stubborn refusal
Notes
  • Source point and Exit point of the Stomach
  • Gives a strong shot in the arm

From Class

  • ST-36 Zusanli: Needled/moxa'd to raise stomach fire so iron is absorbed in anemia; home moxa for anemic patients eating much cold raw food (Ling Shu ch.1). (Yuen)
  • ST-42 Chongyang: Source point of stomach; an alternative to ST-36 for increasing stomach fire in anemia. (Yuen)
  • ST-42 Chongyang & SJ-2 Yemen (fluid points): Popular points to stimulate the body's ability to produce fluids. (Yuen)
  • SP-4 Gongsun: Opening point of Chong: 'grandfather-grandson' — telling patients the name can evoke ancestry; luo connecting inner and outer; links to ST-42 (source, arterial pulse). (Shea)
  • SP-4 Gongsun / ST-42 Chongyang: Massage out crystals/nodules at SP-4; ST-42 draws stomach yang up, relaxes shoulders, supports lungs; massaged with White Flower oil for blood occlusion. (Yuen)
  • Coriander: Oil that resonates with ST-42 Chongyang; apply a drop on the point. (Yuen)
