Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Thought Dwelling has more effect on the mind than on the spirit or body. It clears the garbage and filth out of the mind and revitalizes mental movement and distribution, giving thoughts a place to live. When Earth is boggy and swampy and the person is drowning in their own thoughts, this point is good for reviving Earth energy.

Worsley

Gives us the capacity to understand the natural laws and make sense of our existence.

Location: On the back, 4 ACI from the midline, level with the dip between the T11 and T12 spinous processes.
Needle depth: 5-7 fen
Moxa: 5-15 cones

When to Consider
  • For mental obsession or stagnation, or a mind that is weak or sick
  • For depressed, frustrated people
  • When someone is rigid, stubborn, obsessed or obstinate, closed and unreceptive to new ideas, or too easily moved or swayed
  • When a person is drowning in their own thoughts and bogged down
  • When thoughts hold a person still, or constant thinking disturbs sleep
  • For mental indigestion: difficulty assembling ideas and thoughts, can't take in thoughts, can't let anything new in
  • For anorexia, not being able to take in
  • For worry, endless obsessing, a racing mind, or a mind that is unanchored and uncentered; it gives the mind peace and a place to rest
Combinations
  • UB-50 Stomach Granary with UB-49: the two Earth Officials work so closely that these points are often combined
  • UB-20 Spleen Correspondence with UB-49: when you've done the outer points and can't quite get to it
  • UB-49 Thought Dwelling with UB-50 Stomach Granary: often used together when studying for exams
Notes
  • Outer Bladder line point, opposite the Associated Effect Point (AEP) of the Spleen, the seat of the intellect
  • Can be used on any Causative Factor (CF) with these Earth issues
  • Soften up rigidity with moxa and tonification
